I rented Bioshock cause I usually never buy single-player games except Lost Odyssey.

I beat the game but the story was medicore for me, nothing as big as people voted or the critics said . The gameplay was alright, I liked the fact I kept getting creeped out of my mind.

The story- alright

Gameplay- good not great

Graphics/Presentation - Amazing

Lasting Appeal - umm just a rental NEVER a buy..I beat it in 2 days

This game was good but NOTHING compared to Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Assasins Creed, Oblivion and Gears of War in single-player mode.

I was expecting more because of all the threads I kept reading in the forums........not more just better I guess

I thought it was ok. It doesn't have much replay value imo. The evironments kind of get repetative, somewhat like doom 3 always dark. You also basically fight the same enemy the entire game, (crazy people) and on occasion a big daddy. The ending i thought was also pretty lame. I regret spending 65 dollars on it. It's a good rental, but not a good buy imo.

seriously you might have missed the concept of the story. It is one of the best on the 360.It's definitly better than AC and GoW by far. Look up Ayn Rand and find the similaraties with the story. However i can agrre with it's replay value and the gameplay did not revolutionize anything but it wasn't horrible.

Well a large majority of the community says it's a brilliant game so I'm just going to go with my gut and assume you're wrong, nothing personal it's just I've read a lot of reviews for the game that where a lot more convincing than yours. It really comes down to opinion, I think Mass Effect is garbage but that doesn't mean the game actually sucks, it's just not my cup of tea. To decide whether or not a game is good or bad you really have to play it for yourself because every person's opinion is different, but odds are if a thousand people say a game is excellent and three say it's terrible the game is probably worth checking out.

Did you listen to any of the audio diaries and stuff?? The story doesn't just jump out at you, it is more subtle but just as deep.

Funny you bring this game up, I just traded it in today at gamestop....I think BioShock is way overrated. Its not a terrible game, I mean I played it until I beat the game so it couldnt be bad....One of the reasons I bought the game was I loved the idea of being in a underwater city, WHen I played it I liked the plasmids (cant remember what it called) being able to freeze people and set people on fire to go along with shooting people...Anyways about middle of the game it got to a point where I just wanted it to be over already...It was the same thing every level, kill splicers, jack them for there money and bullets, look around for 3 Big Daddys to blow up with a Grenede Launcher, and get the ADAM from the little girl...That was it all game long..not to mention, if you werent getting annoyed all the time by the annoying Vending Machines then I give you props...I never listened to the secret diaries, I couldnt understand what they were saying half the time...For me it got to a point where I was forcing myself to beat the game, and I knew I woudlnt ever play this game again, so I traded it in....BioShock isnt a terrible game, its just in no way as good as Call Of Duty 4, or Gears of War....How anyone would think BioShock is a better game then COD4 is beyond me...Its not even close...

Bioshock really isn;t that great. IT is no where near as in depth as it was advertised to be. teh atmosphere wears off and the game is way too easy. The story was predictable. System Shock 2 was much much better. I was disappointed by the game

Yea i agree with most people here. I cant agree with those who thought Mass Effect was trash, (WTF? that game was amazing! and ive been gaming since NES) but the Bioshock storyline left me with that "MEH" feeling, especially when most professional reviewers praised the storyline. I thought it was too confusing and not very powerful at all. But the gameplay was on spot.

So many games, so littles time. Cant hear an entire song on the radio w/ out changing the transmital. Sing to the death rattle. I bought geow/bio on cl for $15 and a unopened blk/wireless contr. I,ve yet to complete either. Gears is comparable w/ a rale of meeth and bioshock is remenescent of hannable rising. there you have it. thnkx. Late. Taking the time to NOT hurry up and wait/hate. Late

^^ WTF is this guy talking about? speak ENGLISH and maybe others on the forum can understand you. i COMPLETED the game, saving EVERY little sister, and the story is just not very great or gripping honestly. they tried to add in too many twists and ended up making it (for me, anyways) not very memorable and not very powerful. i dont get why EVERY game website/magazine praises it SOO much, and then a game like Lost Odyssey comes along and EVERY game website/magazine gives it a completely average rating, when the game made me feel more emotion and connection to characters than ANY game ive ever played, and ive been playing since NES.

also, EVERY gaming website/magazine talked about how emotional you will get after hearing the little sisters cry out for you to not harvest them. i didnt find it powerful at ALL after the very first one, considering that EVERY little sister in the entire game plays the EXACT same voice audio clip as every other little sister in the WHOLE game. maybe if they all had their own individual voices and pleas for life, i MIGHT have felt emotionally attached, but i personally am not emotionally attached to that one and single voice file.

WHat?

U honestly liked the gears of war single player versus Bioshock?

Bioshock was amazing to me, deserved all the praise. The only reason id say it didnt deserve GOTY, is because i felt Super Mario Galaxy was the better game.

Ok we get it youve been playing games since the nes youve already said, that dosent make you any more right than anyone on this forum, i have bought pretty much every console since the atari 2600, but even if my opinion is that bioshock is great that dosent make me correct.

Hell Yeah...Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 are my top 2 games I have played on 360 so far...I think Rainbow 6 Vegas is better then BioShock....Devil May Cry 4 is better then BioShock IMO, and even the game I am trying to beat right now Ace Combat 6 I'm enjoying more then I did BioShock...Like I said, The underwater city is cool, Using plasmids was cool for a minute, but you never die in the game, and there is no skill involved. Every section the same thing, find 3 big daddys that are the exact same big daddys you have been blowing up every level. Once you find one just start launching grenades at it until it finally dies...Then get the ADAM from the same little girl you've been gettin ADAM from all game, just different hair color trying to fool me...Anyways, how can BioShock be such a good game but nobody wants to play it again after they beat it..I dont hear many people after beating COD4 saying there not going to play it anymore...

Bioshock is an amazing game, and I have a hard time finding another game that is as complex or enriching. The gameplay is nothing spectacular, the general storyline with the little sisters is average. The things that make Bioshock incredible are the audio diaries, realistic enviornments (You feel like Rapture could be possible)and atmosphere. The characters have backstories and their own flaws. Bioshock is a game that you have to pay attention to. If you breeze through it playing it like an average shooter, you are going to miss the majority of the game that is great. If you are the gamer that rapidly taps the A button to get out of the cutscene and just want to shoot some stuff then you will hate this game. You must listen to the audio diaries to fall in love with this game. Andrew Ryan is such an awesome character who has his own ideals. This game makes you wonder: "what really happened in this city." Thats why this game is appealing to the majority of people. You must PAY ATTENTION!!!

^^ Yea dude. There are many games for 360 that were much more replayable, much better gameplay wise, and much more under-rated than Bioshock. somehow boston 2k just got extremely lucky in the way that somehow every gaming publication praises it like its the holy grail of video games, when there are many video games (even in just this generation) that are just as worthy, and lots much more worthy, of all the praise this game has gotten and soo much more, but they dont get what they deserve. i dont understand.

my point exactly, you play Bioshock like you would play Gears, COD, and Halo which are competitive online shooters. Skill is not the point man. Bioshock is NOT A SHOOTER. It is all about the story. think of it as a interactive movie. If you are like this dude do not buy Bioshock. I also like vegas, COD, and Gears. But I don't expect the same experiance with Bioshock!!!! Come on man.

that was for the guy two posts above. for the guy one post above, MOST games deserve much more attention than people pay to them. i pay close attention to all games i play through and definitely did the same for bioshock and it just didnt enthrall me at all like i expected it would after nearly flawless reviews. the audio diaries are not that special!!! the dream sequences in lost odyseey alone slay those emotionally as well as intellectually, and SOMEHOW that game gets nowhere near the praise as this. i just dont get it. im a hardcore gamer and bioshock isnt even near the top of the list of the best gaming experiences ive had.

I also love Lost Odyssey and agree that it deserved a better rating. I am ok with it if you just don't like the game. But if you play it like a shooter that just makes me cringe at the gamers who expect it to be. Thats like playing Mass Effect like a shooter (Which I actually know people who tried that and hate it.) If you don't like RPG's don't buy Mass Effect, and if you don't like story driven games, don't buy Bioshock

like i said, im a hardcore gamer. i played Mass Effect just like i played KOTOR, KOTOR 2, and Jade Empire (and I loved it), which is as a Bioware action-RPG. And i adore story driven games (if i didnt, would i love the dream sequences from LO so much, or the story for Mass Effect so much?) I like Bioshock, and I like it a lot. But I like a lot of games a lot. And I didn't think Bioshock was the "be all, end all, story-telling god of video games" that EVERY reviewer seemed to think it was. I just don't see how professional reviewers could collectively ALL think that game was SOO great when they all seemed to collectively agree LO was SOO average for an RPG, when it's my favorite RPG ever, outclassing, in my opinion, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, FF VII & VIII, Legend of Dragoon, etc. I just feel like there is some epic conspiracy at play here. That is all. Nothing against just Bioshock.

Yeah your right I dont like RPG games, infact I hate RPG games. If you want to watch a movie, put in a Blu Ray, or hit up the theatre....Since I hate RPG's, I dont have Mass Effect...why?? Cuz it clearly says on its review that its in the "Action Role Playing" genre, so thats all I need to see to know its not for me.....But with BioShock, you say its not a shooter, but right on the review it says "sci-fi first person SHOOTER" ....gee I wonder why I thought it was a shooter game...maybe next time they should label it in the "sci fi first person not really a shooter but a interactive movie" genre so I dont make that mistake

Omg how can you even begin to think that, the fact that you get that freedom to decide wather your good or bad is the best idea ever without freedom in a game the playability quickly wears off, however i do agree with your second sentiment if the majority think it's good it most likely will be.

The thing you gotta get used to is that every year since this gen began, there is a game that comes out and all reviewers seem to decide to get on their knees and worship while ignoring all other problems it had. Last year it was Bioshock and in 2006 it was GEARS. I predict that this year it will be Fallout 3 or MGS4.

i just woke up and everyone says bioshcoks story was MEH when they played it like a halo or CoD4 and just tried to kill everything that moved. THE STYORY IS THE MAIN POINT OF THE GAME ,your telling me thw "Would you kindly" and the whole andrew ryan scene meant nothing.

Did you attempt to find audio diaries to actually explain what is going on and what happened. You have to play this game in depth to find the marvelous story.

Nothin Compared to Assasins Creed. Acreed was a great game but I'll never play it again, untill the 2nd one comes out. Theres no replay value to that. Oblivion was a great game I havent replayed it yet but ive almost cleaned EVERYTHING in that game out. Oblivion rocks. I think your wrong about bioshock its an awsome game

Bioshock and oblivion are the only games for the 360 that i have bought that i actually think were worth the price. AC was ok, but the last 30 mins of the game really sucked in my opinion. Either way i cant imagine playing through it again, maybe once the rest of the games in the series come out the story will be better but so far i thought the story wasnt very good. Mass effect was too short, and all the side missions were the same basically. I enjoyed it, but i dont think i will ever play through it again. Halo 3 felt like more of the same. Gears of war was fun playing co op and online.

I agree with the TC more or less. I definetly gave this game a fair shake; I saved every little sister & listened to most of the audio diaries, but it just wasn't as great as people make it out to be. The atmosphere & storyline, while supposedly the game's strongest points, feel completely contrived.

The story had a lot going for it, but it gets compromised during silly moments like "drinking a bioengineered potion that let's you shoot bees out of your arm, which swarm around a potion junky, who for god knows what reason has taken a fancy to scuttling around the ceiling and fighting with imposing looking hooks instead of the abundance of firearms laying around." Also, the little exchange with Ryan toward the end of the game was absolutely absurd. There entire game is littered with nonsense events and things that were done to make the game seem "cooler", but they ultimately only take away from the experience. Even with a goofy story, the gameplay is great; or atleast it could have been had it not been for the vita-chambers, which totally eliminate any suspense or need of skill.

Even though I've given this game a real hard time, it's only because I was let down after the insane amount of hype that followed it. It is what is though, and that's a pretty fun/good looking game. I'll definetly buy the sequel if/when it comes out. The whole thing, though, is a pretty predictable trend. Anytime a shooter comes out with a bit more polish than usual, people tend to go bananas.

dude, Bioshock is way better then assassins creed, but I do agree with you it has nothing on Mass Effect because Mass Effect is the best single player game I have ever played so far. and it has nothing on Oblivion as well, that game is just awesome.
