I've already made up my mind that I'm going to go out and get an Xbox 360 later today. I want a Halo 3 Special Edition because it doesn't look as bad as the stock photos AND it has a really cool limited edition green controller. Trust me, that green controller is going to be RARE years from now...And I like to collect stuff like that. Plus, nobody mentions that the Halo 3 Xbox 360 comes with a plug and play kit with rechargeable battery...

IF my Best Buy has the holiday Xbox 360 bundles, then I won't pass up Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. That's a deal that's too good to pass up. I'll just get the Premium 360.

The big question is...WHAT GAME SHOULD I BUY? I can only afford 1 because I am completely set on getting Mass Effect.

I am torn between BIOSHOCK and THE ORANGE BOX.

Keep in mind that I do own a PS3 and will NOT be spending money getting Xbox Live Gold. I refuse to pay for laggy Xbox Live.

Man, this is a tough one. Bioshock is fantastic. But so's the games on the Orange Box. But if you're sure you won't want XBL at all, I'd say Bioshock first. And if you have a PC strong enough for it, save yourself $10 and get it off steam as opposed to buying it for 360.

Yes, but you can buy the orange box over Steam - cheaper. You don't even need a good computer to play it...

Halo 3's lag is horrific. You're even *one* tick away from a full green connection (or anyone else connected), and the thing deteriorates quickly. Before long, people are just randomly warping and blinking in and out of existence right in front of you. And before you know it, it takes like half a minute to respawn. I know if I was basing my purchase of a subscription to XBL Gold because of Halo 3, I would say **** no.

Okay?!? Someonlinematches in Halo 3 will maybe lag a little, but that's very rare...

I'm starting to lean towards BIOSHOCK a little more because it is an Xbox 360 exclusive that I can't get on my PS3.

Then again, the Xbox 360 version of THE ORANGE BOX is probably going to be better than the PS3 version...

As much as Orange Box is a good value, it's not meant for the 360 compared to Bioshock. What I mean is that it was built from the PC, while BS is from 360 hardware.

I'm playing Half Life 2 and honestly, the story doesn't captivate me the first one did. The new one feels... cliche. It's like alright let's progress the storyline where Gordon meets the doctor. NO WAIT, let's screw something up so the player has to fight his way to the location. Or like, this is where Gordon runs away. NO WAIT, let's have some rocks fall and block his exit, so he has to go through some random town... blah, blah. Portal, my friend says it's easy, but it is said to have an excellent ending (song). TF2... hmm, this is probably the draw here.

Bioshock is an awesome game, but it's a singleplayer game. Once it's beaten, I doubt you'll get anything out of it. But TF2 is the hose that continually pumps.

Do you want to watch a basketball game or do you want to play basketball? One offers a great run-through, while the other one keeps on giving.

But BS is a unique game. You won't find a game like this much anywhere. TF2, while it is fun and replayable, so are many other 360 titles. If TF2 wasn't in there, I would say go with BS. But with TF2, it becomes a seesaw. BS offers an amazing singleplayer ride, finely crafted. TF2 offers a multiplayer... but then again so do many other games.

If you have no multiplayer games, OB could be the game to get. If you already have multiplayer games you spend your time on, I suggest BS.

First off, please don't tell me about how I should just sell my Xbox if I don't have Live. That's a load of...

Why won't I get Live?

1. I have a PS3 and get to play online for FREE. After playing Warhawk and enjoying it to death, I'll never pay to play online again.

2. My campus only has a wireless network available to students. That would require that in addition to $50/yr for Xbox Live, I'd also have to drop $100 more on a Wi-Fi Adapter.

3. In order to access our school network, you need to input your student info. I was able to do this on my PS3 via the web browser. The Xbox 360 offers me no such guarantees. Going through all those steps AND spending that extra money AND NOT being guaranteed that everything will work is not an option.

Now that I'm done "defending" myself for NOT wanting to get Xbox Live at the moment, please answer the question

I'm not getting Halo 3. I'm getting the Halo themed Xbox 360 because I think it looks cool and will be a rare item in a few years. I really dig the green controller and battery pack.

Get Orange Box. Much more gameplay in it. If you have a good enough PC, get it off steam, cause then you could play TF2 online. I bought bioshock the day it came out. I played though it the day it came out. I had a good time. Now what? It just sits on a shelf, collecting dust. In retrospect, I wish that I just rented this game (mycokerewards.com for free blockbuster rentals!!! :D). I am renting OB now, and I kinda wish I'd bought it. But im saving my monies (CURSE YOU COLLEGE!!!). VERDICT: If it's Bioshock vs Orange Box, I'd say ORANGE BOX

No Live?

Definitely Bioshock.

Half-life was done with #1. #2 feels cliche. Like I said before, you'll be told to go from point A to point B by some CPU dude. Then somehow, some alien comes out of nowhere and now you end up in a sewer. Or how you were going to go through some tunnel, only the rocks block it off.

I'd get Bioshock. It seems a lot more original and creepy in a way.

Portal... my friend says it was too easy.

Bioshock is an exclusive and doesnt have a multiplayer element that requires live. However if you look at the majority of Xbox games the really popular ones are played online. At this point Microsoft has the largest and most robust network. No it's not free but that is a big part of the experience Microsoft is shooting for. So if you are really thinking of getting a 360 and not getting live you may feel like you wasted your money.

I dont know what revelade is on, but HL2 is great, as are it's expansions. The OB alone is worth the 60 JUST for Portal though. Get The OB.

I don't think you should "excuse" or "defend" yourself for not getting Xbox Live, but to call Xbox Live laggy is bullsh*t... Good to have that out of my system... :D

you trash talk xbox live but yet you like psn? interesting.. okay anyway, personally i'd say the orange box. why? well, i own both of them, i got the collectors edition of bioshock when it came out, and yes, it was a very, very amazing game. BUT it only lasted about 8 hours, and i haven't played it since. the orange box, on the other hand, i just picked up last week. never played half life or anything before. portal was just amazing, i beat it the night i got it (god school was hard the next day..) and plus with half life 2 and episodes 1 and 2, thats over 30+ of single player. aka bioshock x 4. team fortress is an incredible multiplayer game as well, but, you wont have live so i wont get into it. have fun with the 360!

Go with Bioshock first since you don't plan to pay for the Live services. If you purchase Halo 3, it will not be the same without Live, so that's something to think about as well. I think you should join Live. I haven't had any lag issues except for playing NBA Live 07, but I haven't had those problems with Nba Live 08.

bioshock is great but it has little replay value (i was done after about 16 hours, and had no urge to replay). It really could have had a great multiplayer aspect. i would get orange box, so many games, portal, half life, team fortress. I really is the best bang for your buck... maybe wait until bioshock is a greatest hits at $29.99

Another thing, if you plan on getting a 360 you really have to get Live. its pretty much THE strength of the 360. If you refuse to get it you may wanna reconsider why you want a 360, because most of the best games are online multiplayer (halo, gears, cod4, orange box)...

I have a PS3 as well, and the online multiplayer is equivalent for both. Live is not laggy.

Calling me a liar? **** you. Every single day I played Halo 3, there have been at least one or two matches that would experience this horrific lag. And if anyone is even remotely doing anything on the network, even finding a compatible game on Halo 3 is a trial and a half. Ironic because I was playing TF2 the other day and even with Limewire running, and having effectively 56k-ish ping, I did not experience the player warping and the lag to the outright extent that Halo 3's lag was.

BS. a 360 is just fine without online multiplayer. There are plenty of single-player oriented games that are fantastic on the 360, and a big reason for why I purchased one. The XBL stuff had no bearing other than that I held off on buying the Xbox 1 for so long because there was no "freebie" membership on that one. And given the absurd number of asshats in xbl online games nowadays, I'm finding it hard to justify extending my Gold Subscription (which my brother bought me through a prepaid card).

Hey buddy, couldn't hold off anymore, huh?

Get BioShock. BioShock is a phenomenal game that is very much worth the price. I played through it twice, once on medium harvesting the Little Sisters, and once on hard while saving the Little Sisters. It's a masterpiece of a game, and while the Orange Box is very good, I think BioShock will give you more of what you're looking for.

BioShock is a great first game because it will shock you with how good it looks, feels and plays. It has a great story, incredible atmosphere and it's all around awesome. Make sure to take your time and search every single area so you can experience the whole story.

It's a great game man, enjoy.

And especially frustrating when the thing says "you're fine", and you set up and take your time to get a proper sniping shot, but then before you can pull the trigger, some dude warps right in front or to your side and melee's you... and turns out it was the same person you had in your scopes three seconds ago.

If you have a limited amount of money then just rent Bioshock. I bet it twice in 2 days then sold it on ebay for sixty bucks. I have had the orange box since release and have only completely beat episode two, portal and most of HL2.

If you rush through it. Those of us who have more pressing matters or want to enjoy the full spectrum of what it has to offer (without buying the guide), will happily let the flavor savor for a few more days than what a single rental alone would cover.
