The only scary bits were when you came across a corpse that suddenly comes to life with a scream and jumps at you.
Remember that bit in Hephaestus where you go into that long room, the lights go out twice with sounds of laughter, and when you go back to the start of the room(as the door up ahead was locked) the corpses scream and leap at you. That bit got me good.
Now, I know the devs probably weren't looking to make it a frightening game, but if the Big Daddies attacked you on sight rather than ignoring you till you hurt them or got too close to a Little Sister, it would be a hell of a lot scarier. Just picture walking down a flooded hallway, then all of a sudden you hear the heavy stomping, and the long drawn out groans of a Big Daddy. Then, you round the corner only to see the green lights on his helmet turn red and him charging after you like a madman.
As it is, though, it's not very scary. It's kind of creepy, and some parts have me glancing over my shoulder to make sure there isn't a splicer behind me, but overall it doesn't have me on edge like Doom 3 did.
There was one part where you go down into a flooded room and there's a corpse sitting in a chair and facing the wall. Then, you go over to use the vending machine and when you turn around, the "corpse" is doing aballet pose right infront of youbefore screaming and swinging her weapon at you. That made me jump a little.

That part didn't really scare me much, but I did get to the point where I didn't like going past a "corpse" because they started jumping up at you somewhat often after that. Moreso from the annoyance of having to kill yet more slicers, and these ones seemingly dead before you walk past them. There was a small "wtf" moment there when the lights go off and then come back on and the corpse I was about to loot was missing. :P
If I hadn't seen that part before coming across the one that pops up behind the casket in the morgue in the medical pavilion, that probably would have made me jump.
What's scary is how much time I've already spent playing this game.
P.S. tell my wife and kids I love them.

yeah i'd say not so much scary as it is creepy
Condemned is scarier. When you play Condemned when the crazy enemies come at you you don't have a nice electric shooting shotgun at your disposal to make you feel safer.-MlKE-
