I don't know if it's known as that anywhere else, but here in the States (across the pond from you?) it's the day after Thanksgiving (a holiday in November). The stores here will usually have lots of stuff on sale for really cheap. It pretty much marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season over here. They hope to attract people with those 'door-buster' deals and then get customers to buy accessories and warranties and such to make profit.

In marketing terms, it marks the beginning of when they can come out of the red (losing money?) and into the black (making money?) hence the name 'Black Friday.'

As long as idiot shoppers start lining up at 4 or 5 in the morning, then there will always be a black friday.

December 26, here everyone has HUGE sales to get rid of their excess stock. Pretty much the only place I've seen that doesn't have a boxing day sale are food stores lol It sounds about the same as Black Friday

It's different for every state, last year South Carolina did no sales tax the two days after Thanksgiving on anything you bought. Wish I was gonna be there this year for it.

...so like the day after Christmas Day in the states you have no holiday?? Boxing Day here is always onthe 26th, a UK holiday aswell and other countries. It's now more or less been made into what black friday is in the U.S...big sales and such. Retailers have even gone as far now as having a Boxing Dayweek which they like to call the "thirtenth month" i guess cuz they make so much money.
