Seriously single player campaign is so boring so far. graphics are nothing very spectacular only multiplayer is the strong point and gamespot gives it 9/10

Why are games like Fallout Vegas, Enslaved, Singularity, Saints row 2, given less than 9? why gamespot why?

Does COD get complimented for repetition?? then smackdown vs raw series should get GOTY lol

I really like the SP and I'm not even a COD fan. I played MW2 and I thought it's the worse of the three (COD4, MW2, Black Ops). The games you mentioned above are great games though, but I think their scores are pretty spot on. Even then, I wouldn't take review scores so seriously. Some of them are bias as hell.

I agree! The overall graphics (texture maps, modelling detail, volumetric effects, fluids, gases) etc are not even as good as MW2. I was playing one particular map (snow level) and I checked out the implementation of the environment...The fog looked like floating bitmaps with transparency, animated rotated and scaled to mimic movement and change.....fail.

I really don't get how it can get a 9 when the gameplay really hasn't changed at all throughout the entire series. Popular series always get rated high, I don't take reviews into account when deciding whether to get one.

Seriously. If the damn game is COD or Halo, it is bound to at least get an 8.5. It seems like these reviewers are either huge COD fanboys, got paid off, or just like small changes.

Based on my personal playtime of Black Ops, I'd give it an 8.5. overall its a nice package. Treyarch did a great job with the multiplayer. Improving on every failing that MW 2 had Imo. I love the new currency system for getting attachments, camos, etc and the perks are well balanced.

I haven't played this one yet, so I can't comment on graphics etc, but I read the review and they pretty much say it's the same as every other CoD in recent years. Which is good, but a 9? I agree with the others who said CoD, Halo, and I'll add in GTA always get ridiculous high scores seemingly no matter what. Seriously, over the last 5 years this site has become so marketed that I don't know how they can even claim to give fair reviews anymore. You go to the homepage and you would swear you were on www.gamestop.com. Halo 3 ODST was the last straw for me putting any faith in their reviews.

I'll check the game out later this week but I am going to go out on a limb and say from everything I have seen/heard/watched it's deserving of an 8 just for the fact that it brings very little new stuff to the table. People get on Madden for being a "yearly roster update" (which I agree with more and more every year) but I wish the gaming community would wake up and realize it's not just Madden, it's almost every franchise out there, with a few good exceptions. We as gamers make it very easy for these companies to feed us crap and get rich off of the same games year after year....

I'm hoping I can avoid purchasing this one, i was suckered into World at War, but MW2 was incredible, so I was happy about that. It is definitely a troublesome scenario where the game is very similar to what has been done already, and when it comes to this Call of Duty, there doesn't seem to be a lot of innovation. Halo always significantly improves its multi-player, Gears has added various mechanics to game-play each time around, and I think the same can be said of many franchises that consistently score high. But for Call of Duty, to be honest, I find the differentiating factor from one game to the next to really be the strength of the campaign; and really Black Ops seems to carry over almost everything that MW2 did right. Should this be rewarded with the hype? I don't think so, but plenty of my friends seem to have been brainwashed into thinking this game is the best thing since sliced bread. In addition, Treyarch has never created something original, and I think that should say a ton right there (with the exception of maybe Zombie mode... maybe)

And infinity has created something original?

You do know that infinity was people from the old Medal of Honor games, that then went on to create their own war game, call of duty.

Seriously, Call of Duty and originality...dosn't go well together.

Looking at the multiplayer, it's the most balanced call of duty has been since the release of 4. Played about 3 hours yesterday and didn't see any overpowered perks or guns, maybe it doesnt deserve a 9, but it's definetely a huge improvement over mw2.

I got it for the multiplayer and they absolutely nailed that part of it. The game is balanced again and feels more like CoD4.

If anything, for me, it delivered on everything I hoped it would be and then some (Zombies!).

yer awful game, they must be paid to review these games high. Halo reach was not overrated it had so much to offer on the game, maybe didn't deserve 10s, 9,5s but it still was and is a really good game, just because they have changed so much unlike call of duty which is nearly identical each time.

Couldn't have said it any better. If anything, Black Ops makes it even clearer how much MW2 took a huge step back when it comes to the Multiplayer aspect.

Anything that has CoD stamped on it will always get stupidly high marks. Despite the fact the games are the same each year and bring nothing new to the world of gaming. They're like those big, daft blockbuster films. No substance at all and just full of big bangs and special effects.

I agree on the the review ratings being off. So what I do is read the user reviews and check out the forums. I find user reviews more honest and forthright. If there's a game out there that's not to popular it tends to get a low rating from Gamespot but if you read user reviews (from people interested in that genre niche) its a better source of information.

The problem with the ratings is they focus more on the Single Player. I buy the CoD games strictly for multiplayer, so the refreshing new and re-balanced multiplayer + zombies is well worth the money for me. I could care less what number they stamp on it.

absolutely agree with you! i was skeptical at first thinking black ops would just be another version of mw2 but treyarch did a good job on balancing the game. i'm sure people will find some ways, glitches, whatever to ruin it. but for now, i'm really enjoying and having fun with black ops. even getting killed by those RC cars and watching myself trying to run away from it during the killcam is enjoyable lol.

SP is totally better than all CODs IMO, and the multiplayer is so much more balanced, there is so much more content too (my only gripe is lack of campaign co-op or non-zombie co-op mode)

Honestly, I nominate it for Most Improved Franchise of the Year, since MW2 destroyed everything I loved about COD

In the written review Gamespot said the only bad part was the short campaign. Because of the short campaign, the game was 1 point away from being 'perfect' in the eyes of Gamespot. Hmmmm something doesnt add up. For that, the game should have gotten a 9.5. Why didnt Gamespot go into more detail about the flaws of the game? Almost everything written about the game was in a positive manner. When I look at the review of Halo Reach, they said the bad parts are "no party members allowed in the Theater and Imperfect friendly AI occasionally hinders campaign" but yet they gave it a 9.5? Now Im starting to see why nobody has trust in the Gamespot reviews...

Its a good game (better than MW2 by far) but 7 million copies in 24 hours? Hell yeah its overrated.
