Halo Reach last night and wow did I get owned. After playing Black Ops for the last few months and no Reach, I can tell the difference between the games as far as the skill it takes to actually be good. I know that the CoD fanboys will roast me for this, but I know for fact that I could give up Black Ops for two months, come back and in my very first game of hardcore TDM I could go 20-10...eeeasily!

So Im asking you guys, which game franchise do you think takes more skill to be good at...CoD or Halo and why?

oh god this will degenerate quickly...

i dont think this is an argument that can be won or even majority decided. Its too individual when it comes to the type of FPS people naturally take to

Halo is more based on skill IMO. Lets look at how I kill an opponent in Halo vs CoD.

-Halo

Okay this guy is coming at me from my left, turn to face him. He's got a shotgun so I should backpedal so he doesn't get too close to me. OH CRAP he threw a grenade I gotta sidestep that. Okay that was close, but now he's a bit closer and he's unloading into me with the shotgun. I've been burst firing with the AR so his shield just popped though. Now he's got the shotgun so the melee kill is way too risky, so i'll just switch to my pistol and headshot him really quick. YES! Headshot! he dropped my shield so I'd better find somewhere to chill for a minute. I'll take that shotgun and reload it for my own use while I'm at it.

-CoD

Okay, We're playing TDM so no bomb or base to defend, I should just find a corner to camp in. Then again, I can go charging in with this LMG, but I'll die really quickly if they've got a sniper, which they always do. Okay here comes a guy. Blat! And he's dead.

Now lets see how I die

-Halo

Oh crap something just took started hitting my shield! Armor lock so I can survey the area in 3rd person, and he's off to my 7 o'clock. I'll turn to face him, but I'd better switch to the DMR as soon as I come out because the AR is useless at that range. Okay time to come out before he tosses a grenade. And out, switch weapon, fire! He's dancing so it's hard to hit him, but so am I and he's missing about every third shot. Then again I'm missing every other shot. There goes the shield crap! HA! Ducked that last headshot..ah crap that other one got me. Good fight sir, good fight.

-CoD

Okay spawn in, I'm instantly vulnerable from about seven different angles, at the mercy of only the spawning system to make sure nobody is around me. Okay looks like I'm safe for now. I'd better find a decent position. There's a shady corner over there with some bushes I can shoot from for awhile. I've got a silenced SMG so they won't see me on the radar. ENEMY UAV SPOTTED!!! Ah crap. *death by sniper* And OH LOOK He had a thermal scope what a surprise!

Halo is based on skill and being able to adapt to the situation (or just cheesing with the Sword, Rockets, Hammer, etc). CoD is based on perks, killstreaks, and having the right gun for the situation (or just cheesing with the noobtube, Marathon-Lightweight-Commando combo, Martyrdom, Juggernaut, etc.)

This is my opinion, mine alone, you can agree or disagree, but I'm not responsible for your butthurt self typing a long and thoughtless response. Just sayin'

I actually suck at black ops, and I'm actually pretty good at Halo!

But I've barely played black ops, so maybe I would get good quickly.. I'm not going to vote as I don't know for sure! :P

CoD is a game based off spawn trapping, most people don't understand this, or pretend to. The concept is more tactical rather than skill.

And as cougar said. this won't end well

I'm the opposite, I do quite ok on black ops and I suck at halo and actually don't even like it, my brothers play HR all the time and they are good, they suck at BO. Black Ops is more about finding the gun and perks that work for you Halo is about runing for the Sword, Shotgun or Grenade launcher Also control scheme is different, maybe I should remap the controller to what I'm used to in BO and give it a try

I don't play either game for months and come back and i'll still have a positive kill to death ratio.

COD is very easy to play. Halo in my opinion is a pretty hard shooter. I would say I'm generally good at FPS's but Halo took me quite a while to get good at.

Both take no skill. Hell, no game takes skill. It's all luck.

It's easy to play COD, but it's the campers, tubers, and quick snipers that make it hard.

Halo is actually competitive.

Halo by far, I play COD because I have more friends that play it, but Halo requires much more skill. Both good games in their own right, and Chaoscougar is right, these discussions never go well.

Honestly, I'm quite new to the Halo franchise, and the first thing I noticed about the multiplayer was the proper amount of skill required to dominate. Its impressive.

Eh, Reach takes more skill to play. In CoD, all you have to do is be lucky enough to shoot someone two times, since that's all it takes to kill somebody. It's more tactical than it is skill based.

Reach requires skill. You have to know how to use the weapon you currently have if you want any chance of getting a kill. Most weapons differ greatly from each other in Reach. They might take less or more hits to take someone down and the effective range of most weapons is different. Every weapon in COD handles like the Needler; point in the general direction of the enemy and spray = +1 kill. It also matters greatly where on the body you hit someone in Reach. Someone could start firing at you before you see them and hit you three times in the body and do minimal damage. You would probably have time to locate where that player is and if you can hit him in the head a few times, you'll probably kill him before he takes you down. It takes more skill to hit someone in the head than it does the body. In contrast, in COD, usually you get instantly killed by one short burst of fire from a player you didn't even know was there. It doesn't matter where the bullets hit, you're dead before you had a chance to defend yourself. I think it's because of this instant gratification that people like COD so much and the reason they get frustrated with games like Reach. They flip out in Reach if they shoot someone first but that player turns around and kills them. It isn't the game's fault. That player was just more skilled than you.
