I normally hate these japanese styled RPGs, but I'm in the mood to actually play one. I played Dragons Quest 8 on the PS2 and really liked it. I don't care for those Final Fantasy games, however, because everyone looks like a freakin fruit.

I like the art style more in Blue Dragon (the same guy who did Dragons Quest 8), but I played the demo and was less than impressed by the combat. There were waaay to many menus and I couldn't understand what the hell was going on. Whatever happened to just Attack>Goblin>Done. Now days, it's select between Attack, Attack2 Upgrade Sword +, Attack3 Magic Sword. Attack 3 Magic Sword Combine Upgrade (then a slider comes out where you ahve to time your button press correctly). omg, just attack the stupid goblin please, why TF do I have to go through 20 different options and do slider timing presses just to get this guy to attack the stupid were bat?

*end rant

I dont' care for Eternal Sonata's art style, but hopefully the combat system won't be as tedious.

I really really hate those storylines you see in most anime. The 18 year old school girl with blonde hair is a princess from the Tree World who has to rescue her brother from the clutches of King P-Cell, and only the Legendary Sword and the help of the Celestial Mother spirit can bring him down. Whatever happened to just good ol' ass kicking? Why these protracted storylines that make no sense after the 50th hour of family drama bs?

*end rant

I played FF6 on the SNES and kinda liked that one. FF7 (PS1) had a lot of promise but I only got to play the 1st disc. Phantasy Star 2 (Sega Genesis) is my faviorte rpg of all time (AMAZING storyline)

*end rant

Which one are you guys going to get?

Naw man, that's Zelda. And you need to save your sister with the help of the Master Sword and the Temple Spirits, geez. get your facts straight.

I'll also buy Blue Dragon and probobly rent Eternal Sonata.

I like Eternal Sonata more, probably just because i'm in a band myself. Blue dragon doesn't entertain me that much but I haven't played the demo seriously yet.

a game like blue dragon isn't easy to represent in a demo like that simply because all of the stats and character attributes were pre determined for you, so if you were to play it from the very beggining it would be much easyer to understand just whats going on w/ the battle system and how to use it effectively. but mostly i would recomend this game because it's realy old skool in terms of the style in witch you play.

now i would also recomend eternal sonata for 2 reasons, it has a very different and unique take on telling a story, and the combat system has music based elements to it. don't ask me how it works caus i don't know, but it sounds cool and ifferent.

It's weird, Ive never felt any rpg as epic as FF3... where you can go to the moon, underground had that airship all that stuff. I don't know if it was just because I was younger and more impressionable when I played it, but no rpg feels that big now. Anyone else know what I mean?

yeah, I totally know what you mean. I played Phantasy Star 2 when I was in 5th grade and it sort of stuck with me as the best RPG ever since.

It is really hard to choose based on just the demos, eternal Sonata looks better imo and the comabt system is more fun, however i feel the story and cast of characters isn't as strong as blue dragons,as thats the most important thing in a jrpg.

Blue dragon will be more Epic so i'll choose that.

I'd say Eternal Sonata looks better, graphics-wise and gameplay-wise, the Blue Dragon demo got repetitive and boring FAST..(and I like rpg's!)
