I was just reading the review for Alice: Madness Returns when my heart skipped a beat- the review claims that in the box you get a redemption code for a downloadable copy of American McGee's Alice- can someone confirm this? If true, this would be a STEAL.

it's very much true in new copies. Alternatively you can pay 800MS points for it, but you'll still need the Madness Returns disc to be able to play it.

Ooh, that's dirty. But then, I suppose it is EA, after all...

I just got the game today and yes they give you a code to download the first Alice game. The game is part of EA's online pass thing.

It's kind of silly how you say that it's a steal because the original Alice is included, then lambast EA for forcing you to own the game disc :/ I was definitely pleasantly surprised and thrilled about the inclusion of an HD-remake of the original, free of charge. Considering it is EA after all, right?

You would think you could still buy/play it (the original) without buying the new one though :? That just makes business sense IMO. There is no physical product. All the costs are sunk costs. So any extra sales are pure 'profit' (assuming they make a profit) or, at the very least, decrease the losses taken.

It's dirty because you can't buy just the original- or worse, if you're not paying close enough attention, you could pay for the original, but not be able to play it until you buy Madness Returns. I wouldn't have made the above statement if it had been like any other XBLA or Games on Demand title.

Well it is marked as a game add-on and they didn't exactly make a big deal of its release, it kind of crept out there. I think they handle the first game more like a downloadable prelude than a separate game. Don't get me wrong, I agree it should've been a separate arcade game because then I would've already bought it since I don't think I'll pick up Alice: Madness Returns any time soon. I only brought it up because, to me, it sounded like you were already convinced to buy Madness Returns and that the original game would just be the icing on the cake, and then the next sentence you're disappointed that have to own Madness Returns to play the original game. It sounded really contradictory. It's probably just me, it's one of my pet peeves when people are given something great for free yet still find a way to complain about it.

I'm thrilled that the first one is being made available on my 360, and I do plan on getting Madness Returns. The bitter disappointment here is that due to my current financial situation, im not in any position to buy all the games that are out that I want- if A McG's Alice were an arcade/games on demand title, I'd be able to spend the ten bucks on it. As it stands though, I can't afford to shell out 60 bucks on Madness Returns. Add to that my worry that this will prove to be a timed offer, and might not be available by the time I get around to Madness Returns.
