Borderlands help, please?

I've have these friends that play co-op with each other on the same t.v. They recently bought Borderlands, and every time they co-op the second player loses all the experience that she has gained and loot. While on the other hand, the host, or player 1, keeps all of his loot that he finds in the game. Is this supposed to happen? I thought that they should both keep everything.... They've called the hotline for Borderlands, but the people won't help them figure out the problem. Does anyone here know?

Does player two quit out before player one ends the game? Make sure you always quit out so that you can save before the host ends the game.

All players that are not host need to quit before the host quits. This also applies to playing on xbox live.

I've never encountered this problem, and I am always the 2nd player. Every time the host ends the game, I still keep everything I had.
