Good news, M Nelson has announced that the game is now playable on Xbox One (backwards compatibility) if you are in the early preview program.

Borderlands Coming To Xbox One Backward Compatibility

Xbox Live's Major Nelson

Borderlands will be supported on Xbox One Backward Compatibility when it launches publicly this November and is available in Preview today, expanding the growing library of Xbox 360 titles available on Xbox One and joining the greatest games lineup in Xbox history.

If you own Borderlands, you’ll be able to play it on your Xbox One and you can carry over your previously-saved files, game add-ons and achievements. Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, bringing Borderlands to Xbox One Backward Compatibility lets you dive back into the loot-filled world of Pandora and pick up your adventure right where you left off on Xbox 360. Battle your way through the world of Pandora with Claptrap, your ever-talkative robot companion, and your fellow Vault Hunters on Xbox Live, no matter which Xbox console they are playing on.

“We are proud to support Xbox One Backward Compatibility by bringing the complete, original Borderlands to Xbox One, including all downloadable content,” said 2K President Christoph Hartmann. “We know many of our fans have put in dozens, even hundreds, of hours exploring the world of Pandora on their Xbox 360, and now they can continue their adventures on Xbox One.”

Xbox One Backward Compatibility is all about giving you the ability to play the games you love most from both generations in one place for free. We’ll continue to have more updates on new titles supported by Xbox One Backward Compatibility as we get closer to launch with more than 100 Xbox 360 titles available at launch in November and hundreds more on the way.

This is good news, the more games the better. I must admit, it is a little disappointing they did not include this in the Borderlands collection, so my guess is the second game (along with the pre-sequel) will not make the backwards compatibility list (here is hoping I am wrong though).

Cool beans but I'd rather it be BL2, really not interested in going back to the first one right now. Eh, may do it and try it out again just for old time sake. lol

@SecretPolice: I know what you mean, I somehow doubt that they would support BL2 since they came out with a remaster for that recently, but you never know.

To be honest this news was meant more for early preview members, because in the private early preview forums, the most asked question is probably "when will we get a new BC title to test?", so I figured I'd make a quick fyi post about it here since a lot of members here are part of the early preview program as well.

Awesome! It'll be nice to have the entire franchise on a single console as I want to get my wife to try this series. As for the person wanting BL2, the Handsome Collection is frequently on sale and includes everything for BL2 and BL:TPS, at least to my knowledge it does. I played through the Pre Sequel a few times and didn't notice any missing content. (TPS is a great game for any who haven't tried it yet.)
