I know cash can be hard to come by, especially for kids or teens that either are not old enough to work or even college students who are trying to focus on school as they should. That said though, people need to stop complaining about the cost of games.
I paid 40 - 50 dollars for many games on the NES back in the 80's, game pricing has been incredibly stable for a whole lot longer than anything else has been, we are lucky that we had a span of nearly 20 years where games didn't really increase all that much in price.
I consider this jump to 60 bucks a basic market correction that in many ways was long overdue, and considering the increase in production costs, and most importantly the increase in quality of product over even the last generation, I'm more than happy to pay the extra $10.
Don't get me wrong, I would love it if new games for the 360 and PS3 were $30, or less, and we could all buy a lot more games, but considering how the prices of everything else have gone up and up over the past decade or so especially, I think video games are one of the few things we shouldn't be complaining about the cost of.
Its not that i dont agree with u, but to boycot games is really not the answer. Think of it, we all went out and bought a games console like xbox360 or ps3 to play games, right? So, if u boycot them, what will u use it for?? U can allways go and rent games, but there are some that take a while to complete (GTA series for example) that renting them makes it more expencive in the long run. Also, there are such quality games out there that developers put so much effort to make that it is a shame not to show your graditude by buying them. Perfect example for me is Gears of War and Ninja Gaiden for the original xbox, which by the way i was playing on and off for 3 years in a row!!! I have finished the game countless times and still go back for more (same used to apply for Devil may Cry on the PS2, awesome game!!!)
As of the comparison u make with pc games, they might be a bit cheaper, but u have to keep upgrading ur system every 6 months in order to play most games the way they were intended! Games like Bioshock or GoW need a high-end mashine to run properly. Much more expencive in the long run.
This is not to say that all games deserve our hard-earned cash. I'm still pissed of with myself that i went out and bought Def Jam Icon, which i played for half an hour and is since sleeping on its case!!! (by the way, special thanx on Gamespot for the most overrated review ever!!!)
I think its much better to do our research before u buy a game. Check Gamespots reviews (which are most of the time quite on spot, except for the one mentioned above), other players reviews or opinions, or even rent the game first - if u can complete it in 1 day and has no replay value, dont waste ur money (remember Mark of Kri on the PS2, anyone?). And be allways wary of the marketing hype (even is i'm a marketing manager myself). To conclude, always make up your own mind on games u wanna buy, one way or the other.
Ok our first big problem is our economy, everything has gone up in price because it cost alot more to live these days, and I think we all know who to blame for that. Next it does take alot of money to make a game, granted some really don't seem that way, everyone wants and needs a peice of the pie. I don't like the way the prices are right now but, in the same sence everyone just has to deal with it, if we freak out and boycott we are just hurting the the game producers who might just say I've made enough and pull out of the game market. Next if you can't afford a game when it gets launched then just wait, their is always sale or special deal out their. eventually we might see what you consider the norm in prices but until then, just enjoy the games you do buy and spend wisely.
Want to add my two cents.
You have a good point on why to boycott games. Truthfully for what we get in some games they are priced well others not so much. Example I don't mind paying 60 bucks for Forza 2 but Stranglehold for 60??? maybe 30 bucks tops.... Anyway what I dislike is EA selling games for 60 bucks and throwing in a but load of Ads.
If your seriously going to boycott games and try to make others join you I would add this two bits.
1. WHY the hell aren't there games for free? Why isn't Madden Free? Its 2007 people make companies pay for advertising that can auto get switched out each month.... example Durning my load times have a Burger King Comercial instead of a screen saying loading.... EA already has comercials changed out, if you throw in again madden 08 you can see different ads on the scoreboard this month is an add for the new simpsons game.
Actually on second thought I'm going to make a second thread about this.....
Does anybody think we should boycott games because of their high prices? I know there are loads coming out, so it may be kind of hard, but it just feels like we are being ripped off. I know a lot of you will say "it costs a lot to make them, so the prices need to be high" Now i don't know much about it, but if they can sell the same game on the pc for ten bucks cheaper, i feel like I'm being connedneo_one
Get a job, hippie.

Yeah, you can buy the games cheaper on your PC, but you forget that you also only paid about 400 bucks for your 360 as opposed to a much much more to get a computer that can duplicate the power of the 360 (excluding those people that are knowledgeable enough to build their own PCs for extremely low costs).
Anyways, as part of getting a game on the 360, you have to pay licensing fees to Microsoft, that's where most of the difference in price comes from. You also either have to buy or rent a development kit from MS and that also gets included in the price.
And honestly, 60 bucks is not that much if the game is half decent. Think about it, if you can squeeze at least 20 hours out of a game, which really shouldn't be that hard except for the worst titles, you are basically paying 3 bucks an hour for entertainment. What else can you do that only costs you 3 bucks an hour to have as much fun as you have gaming? Plus, don't forget, games are one of the few things you can get all the fun out of, then sell back for a small amount and reinvest in another game.
Sure, we'd all love for games to be as good as they are now and only cost 20 bucks, but lets get serious, it isn't going to happen. Instead, just be smart. Buy used games, you don't have to get *every* game the day it comes out. Buy online too, I just picked up Forza 2 for 20 bucks online and it still costs 50-60 bucks in stores. Keep an eye out for good deals. ToysRus always does buy 2 get 1 free sales in Sept./Oct. so save your money for then. Etc. etc.

considering the cost to upgrade a computer to achieve some of those good graphics, i would expect the games to be a bit cheaper wouldnt you?
