is it a bad choice if i buy the regular $400 360 now instead of getting the new elite one?

just depends on what you are planning on doing with your 360. if you want a bigger HD and HDMI you should probably just get an elite. If you don't have an HDTV or all your going to do is use it for straight up gaming and not for videos then get the Premium.

The best deal is the elite cause of the HDD.  Unless you want to save the 80 bucks now and have a white 360 then buy a 120 GB HDD down the road at 180.

remember the elite's one good thing is that it has a 120 gb hard drive... i am still using my 20 gb hard drive... it works fine for me... if you plan on downloading content (like demos and stuff) then i recommend you get the elite... the elite does NOT have wireless... or an hd dvd drive... just the 120 gb hard drive...
