I heard somewhere that its only ebgames and gamestop that require you to be 17 to buy M games. Is this true and does it mean if I'm 16 I can just buy halo 3 at circuit city or best buy?

Heard some stories from my local Best Buy. I'm 16 also and I went to buy Rainbow Six Vegas and one of the workers walking around said I needed an ID for it, so I had to drive home and bring my 18 year old brother with me. Kinda bull, but I'll be 17 in a few months.

Many stores are now requiring identification due to stricter laws. Long ago I was never asked for my identification, now even older I'm asked for my identification almost anywhere I go.

People under 18 shouldn't be playing games rated M. It's dangerous for minors to see images like the ones in violent videogames, it's dangerous for their development and the fact that the mercy is in the power of your hands can really effect some one and confuse them with their role in reality. If your 16 then you don't need to be playing M games, it's not right.

ummm their mature, not adult. They are usually just violent and theres worse on network television or PG13 movies, i think that they need one more rating for 15 years though, i mean i could easily see allowing a 15 yearold halo when splinter cell can be just as bad at only T, that is actually killing people. Maybe an LT (Late Teen) would be addition.

M is such a broad term if you ask me. Halo isno more offensive than Fire Fly or Star Wars, but games like Grand Theft Auto really earn ther M rating.

As for buying M games you need to be 17 at most places. I never played many M games when I was younger since I knew my father would destory my consloes if he ever found out.

I'm 16 and I have never gotten checekd for ID. At EB I usually go in, ask the clerk for the game and thats it. My parents don't care either, they've watched me play tons of counter-strike and other games like that.

You really beat me to it. M is far too broad. Halo games are barely M if at all. To give it the same rating as GTA, Manhunt, or The Suffering is very inaccurate.

I work at in EB Games in Canada, and yes we are instructed strictly to sell M rated games to people that are 17+ only. And we are given the right to ask for photo ID whenever we believe the buyer is not over the required age. If you do want to buy, you'll have to come with a parent. Apparently, it's so that your parents take responsiblity and not us, if one day you go out and shoot people or swear recklessly because of the influence of whatever video game you are buying lol. I don't know, I'm just payed to follow the rules lol.

I'm 16, (I'll be 17 in 3 months) but I wish there was something your parent's could sign to show they grant you permission to buy M games. I doesn't really matter anymore but when I was younger it would have been nice. And yes I realize this setup would have it's flaws, it's just a crappy idea that would be cool...

i always get checked when i buy games, no matter where i go, i'm 17 so no big deal, and i think it's a good thing that they enforce this, not that some kids cant handle it but there is a point where it really should be up to the parent, like when i play online with 12 year old kids

I'm 16 and i play M-rated games all the time (I find them to be more fun than most T- and E- rated games) and you don't see me on TV shooting the hell out of everything. I, like most people, can tell the difference between real life and video games.

yeah no kidding. Putting ratings on video games is absurb.

"dangerous to their development, confusing what is reality"Serious?? I recall playing a known, very popular and violent game a decade ago called Mortal Kombat. WOW, I can't believe it but I made it through college with straight A's and have a successful career in the semiconductor industry. My mind isn't so warped from the years of playing violent games that I'm even considering going back to school to study law. I suppose that means I was just one of the lucky few to play a video game without developing a mental disorder and going on a rampage because I'am capable of differentiating reality from fiction. Every case that went to court to blame video game industries for violence due to ones actions failed.

"if your 16 then you don't need be playing M games, it's not right" Hey guess what?? That rating actually means nothing due to experience changing during online play. Laymen's term...anybody can drop the f-bomb in any game that has player interaction. BTW if it's not right at the age of 16....two years from being an independent adult... to view the slightest mature content, then you should also blindfold your children. Don't let them watch television or read anything. Date or hang out with a friend because, oh they might be a bad influence. Just keep them under house arrest until 18.

I have better idea instead of this Kim Jong-il mentality....how about let kids be kids and not turn into a socialistic mamby pamby country. It was such a great period in my youth when I could ride a bike without a helmet and play a ball game where their actually was a winning and losing team. How ironic that under 18 individuals aren't allowed to commit such evil doings for playing a video game, but yet they actually have higher interests at that teen age with members of the opposite chromosome.

I got carded at Best Buy when I bought Bioshock and I was paying with a credit card. Look jerkoff, if I have my own credit card, I think I'm old enough to play an M rated game.

people who took my post seriously are obviously not the legal age to purchase M rated games. anyways, just so the children who got defensive with me earlier know, I WAS JUST KIDDING, Ive been playing violent videogames since I was like 13, and I dont see why teenagers should be getting carded for games, especially halo, if they get carded for ANY game it should be GTA, but even letting them play that is not a big deal.

the only reason people get carded because of law. which is stupid to some people. walmart is strict i bought 300 on dvd the guy ask for some id, i was paying by debt, he guy gave me a dirty look when he saw my id. govermnent should get out of video game rating have more things to worry about than video game violence

I'm 17 years old now. So it's no big deal for me. But when I was 16, I do believe it was kind of lame to be able to drive the the store, but then get turned down like a young kid or whatever. Getting my parents to go to the store with me was a bit lame.

That said, I found that FYE never checks for ID. Even now. I'm not sure if you were younger, maybe they will, but not if you look atleast like, 15.

Still, if you are trying to get around your parents finding out, then you are defintely not as cool as you think.

I'm sorry but your badgrammer iskind of messing up yourpost. I'm guessing you ment tosay something more along the lines of this "I'm 15 and I can do anything I want, why can't I buy M rated games when I can get into night clubs, or evenbuy cigarettes and alcohol." Also I doubt you can do that stuff and be 15 and if you can what kind of neighborhood do you live in.
