I personally hate the fact that they are changing from WW2 play to modern combat!! I don't like modern combat like Ghost Recon, which is ok to say the least, and Battlefield 2 modern combat, both of which I have. I just like the WW2 combat games, not Call of duty 3 though.

What do you think about this subject??

I think EA's battlefield leaves a lot to be desired, and Ghost Recon is a very different style of game. I'm excited to see Infinidy Ward's version... especially after watching the trailers.

I think it's a good thing that they are changing to Modern Combat because they have way to many WW2 games out there. This game is going to be simply amazing.

I think it's about damn time they ditch WWII, and move on to something else. I'm very excited for CoD4 now that it's modern combat. I had no intention of picking up another WWII shooter.

Actually, Infinity Ward (original COD developers) is doing COD4.

I can't wait to see how it turns out. The stuff they have shown so far looks awesome. And I am sick of WWII games; there have been way too many of them.

We can only hope that Hour of Victory has put the nail in the coffin on WW2-themed games for a while. I can't believe anyone would want yet another WW2 game, unless you just have a hard-on for that time period or something.

@ TC - Are you kidding? I am so sick of the damn Thompson!!!!!!! So sick of hearing 'Er braucht hilfe!' or 'Ich hab einen!'!!!! So sick of the same pastures and villages in Europe!!!!! Modern combat is a brilliant idea. Did you see the trailer? You get a gun with a grenade launcher attached, plus night vision and I'm sure a bunch of other cool stuff. Battle in the middle east or chechnya or wherever this is supposed to take place looks terrific, and I'm looking forward to a modern, fairly realistic shooter that doesn't say Tom Clancy on it somewhere.

I think I am still going to get Medal of Honor: Airborne. The open-ended levels are intriguing. After that, I'll be done with WW2. Hopefully some game developers will start being creative and have games set in WW3. They could make up a whole new history for it.

I think you're out of your mind. There have been millions of WW2 games and the vast majority of them have been mediocre at best. We have been playing these games longer than the actual war.

It's about time the industry moved on and CoD 4 is looking awesome!

Well they should make 1 more WW2 game and it should be set in the Pacific!!!!! They always have it in europe and i am a little sick of the pastures and all, but the modern combat is just not the same!!! When i got GhostReacon i started playing it right then, and have never played it since!!! I think they should make a Pacific WW2 game and start it out with pearl harbor!

Yeah, I forgot about Airborne. At least that one has a unique and interesting gameplay mechanic (the ability to land anywhere on the battlefield), which gives it some replay value and a tactical edge. But really... developers need to come up with new ideas when it comes to shooters. Call of Duty moving on to modern warfare is not only the right thing for them to do, but it'll make for the greatest Call of Duty game yet. And not because of better graphics or whatever, but because putting it in a modern time period just gives them so much more freedom to do exactly what they want with the improvements and innovations in weapons, armor, vehicles, and just overall technology.

And this is also why unique shooters like The Darkness are such a breath of fresh air. And speaking of that game, maybe if the next WW2 game had The Darkness' version of WW2, it wouldn't be so bad. Haw.

Like many people, im also getting sick of World War II games. I think if they keep the same basic gameplay intact and keep what makes the Call of Duty franchise as good as it is, their wont be many complaints once people actually get it in their hands. Also curious to see Infinity Wards vision on what a modern combat game should play like. Also, slightly off topic, but what is with all the hate for Call of Duty 3? Everytime someone someone says they like the CoD franchise, they make sure to say except CoD 3.

I really dont get it, Call of Duty 3 was pretty much the same damn thing as the previous installment except for some odd mini game type things in the singleplayer, and an overall (imo) better multiplayer. The core combat is almost exactly the same. If someone could explain what makes Call of Duty 3 inferior to the others (with the exception that it didnt change the formula) be my guest.

There are too many WWII games out there. I would prefer just one huge WWII game with an annoyingly long single-player and MP with a mess load of vehicles among other things.....think of the whole game as Battlefield 1942, Battlestations Midway, Call of Duty 1-3, and Medal of Honor all wrapped into one neat little package. Until then, I'll gladly play a modern shooter.

played so many, also sick of one single man (normally american) changing to the tide of the war. i liked the idea of playing as all the allies, Russia, Britain AND America. but COD4 looks really good, we really needed a change.

I still want to see both companies versions. Infinity War makes the quality, but Treyarch trys to innovate and i want to see how they will innovate with modern warfar.

I dont understand why so many people do not like CoD 3 either. I thought that it fixed many gliches and the game play inmproved tremendously from CoD 2. As for it coming out in a modern time, I think that it is a good decision but it is awkward because they are known for the WW2 games.

TC you can always get the crappy game "Hour of Victory". really WWII games are DEAD. I love the fact that they're going modern. and you cant use GRAW as a comparison cuz it's way too complicated. think COD2 but just modern! it's gonna be great.

being a wwII history buff, im gonna miss cod's theme

but, i guess a change of setting is necessary to keep the franchise fresh. my only hope is that the game doesnt turn out to be just another battlefield 2 type game
