Call of Duty 4 is Biggest Selling Game of 2007.

According to BBC News - Call of Duty 4:

"Microsoft recently announced that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had overtaken Halo 3 for the first time as the most popular game on Xbox Live, based on unique users.

And despite being released six weeks after Halo 3 it has also sold more units."

I'm not really surprised to be honest. Everyone i know has Call of Duty 4 and at least 4 people on my friends list are playing it when i'm online.

It doesnt surprise me, they really changed COD series toward the HALO market, Sheilds=Juggernaut, Mortydome and other things give it a more acrade feel which Halo fans like. To me im having a problem adjusting to the game.

Wow. I knew it did well, but to out sell Halo 3? Thats pretty crazy. Then agian COD4 was like a bajillion times better.

Has anyone taken into account that COD4 was released on 360, ps3, and pc? So it kinna makes sense to sell more doesnt it.

Let me begin this post by saying that I love COD 4 as much as the next guy. I've logged 60 hours on it and have barely played Halo 3 since it came out.

Activision claims that they sold 7.1 million units of COD 4 across three systems. Microsoft claims they sold over 8 million copies of Halo 3 JUST on the 360. What's going on here? If you look at the NPD report for the US(which includes all systems) Halo outsold COD 4 by over a million copies. It seems as though COD 4 must have really sold alot more in other territories.

The reason COD topped Halo on the LIVE chart is because people are still playing the single player campaign. From my own observations playing both games Halo usually has 2-3 times as many people playing multiplayer. So it seems as though Halo is still multiplayer king in terms of numbers.

Either way BOTH games are awesome and will continue to be played for a long time.

It doesn't say CoD4 sold more than halo3, it says that there are more people playing CoD4 online than halo3.callen3

It would surprise me. Even with CoD4 being on four systems, Halo is Halo. Anything outselling it would be the end of time. And, if NPD has any credibility, Halo 3 sold 4.82 million units. CoD4 sold 3.04 million.

All of this is true but some other things must be taken into perspective,COD4 overtook CoD4 for the week of Jan. 13 - Jan 19th and Halo 3 reclaimed the titile last week (Jan 20th - Jan 26th) according to www.majornelson.com.

The second thing you need to take into perspective is CoD4 sales are being taken across ALL 3 platforms (Xbox 260, Playstation 3, and PC) which means it has a MUCH larger user base to sell their product to then just Halo 3 which is a Xbox 360 exclusive.

I am not trying to take away from CoD4s spotlight as it very much deserves all the praise it is getting, but to just say that Halo 3 is supar or inferior is ludacris, Halo 3 still sold more copies on its first day then CoD4 or any other game ever for that matter.

Personally I think both games are awsome and are doing incredible things that are going to only help the gaming industry grow.

I'm not a Halo fanboy, I barely ever play it and admittedly play CoD4 a lot more you can even check my LiveEye profile. But I think it often needs some standing up for sometimes when people misrepresent it like with this thread and that article, it is still a pretty fun game just not an amazing game. And it did sell a lot more than Call of Duty 4 that article is jsut talking about how many GamerTags signed on Live while playing it not sales which is something people made up.

I'm starting to get back into playing it after a month and a half or more of not touching it just because I am starting to get bored CoD4, so really I was more of a CoD4 fan since it came out. I don't think people should keep comparing them because they are two totally different games within the FPS genre which is the only thing they have in common. Its pointless to keep debating them, it would be more valid to debate which is better between Rainbow Six Vegas and Cod4 than it is between it and Halo 3.
