So I just picked up CoD4. Amazing game by the way, the single player was insane. However I went online with it and I wanted to join my buddies party so then we could play in the same game. I always get this error that says I am unable to make this connection (or something). We try to reverse this by me creating a party and then me inviting him, but he gets the same error aswell.

Is this an error everybody else gets? or can you join your buddies parties right when they invite you no problems? This is really frustrating is there maybe a patch or something they could fix this or what?

i had the same problem and i had to connect my 360 directly to my modem and not the router,if you still want to use your router you will have to call the people who made it and get help opening ports or change the nat settings

I think there are some online problems now because everyone who got it for Christmas is playing plus everyone else who already had has time off to play & the servers are maxed out. I've noticed that things like what you mentioned have only happened over the last two or three days. Should be better after everyone goes back to school / work......

I am using a D-Link DI-524 Wireless router. Is there specific ports I have to open?

I've noticed the same issue. Party making works fine when connecting directly to the moden via ethernet, however, connection issues arise when using a router. I've checked with other sites and the issue appears to be related to the NAT type. I'm not an expert on networks but if you access your router setup menu (just use your web browser and enter the ip of the router, normally http://192.168.1.1) and somewhere there should be an interface to enable DMZ (in security settings or if there is a heading for online gaming), which I think opens up the ports to allow all online gaming features. Once DMZ is enabled, you have to enter in the ip address for your console (xbox or PS3, for PS3 check the network connection status and it will list the IP assigned to your PS3). That seemed to address the issue for me. Goodluck.

I use a router and have no problem making parties or joining them.
