Yes, that is unless you have two gold accounts on one xbox
Depends if the game supports splitscreen. Also, for many games both players have to have their own Live account, though there are some like Halo 3 just requires a guest account.
Some games will not allow multiple people to play rank matches on one xbox(see Gears) whether they are both full live accounts or not. Others will(see halo).
You can either have guest logon, or if multiple people in your house have a gold membership, then they can logon on their own handle. I suppose your friends could import their ID and once they get home Import it back, though bring a keyboard cause the process is annoying and slow.
the graw games allow more than one , ( up to 4 i beleive) call of duty 3 allows up to 4. if i remember correctly you can play them all with your own handle or guest login to live.
