If it's temporary, it will say when you get unbanned. If it says you were console banned, then you can never get live on that console again...however, the actual account isn't banned.
I believe it depends on the reason for getting banned. If you were just being a jackass online, then it's temporary. But if you were doing something illegal like playing a burned copy of a game, then it's more likely permanent. In which case the only way you can get back online is to use a different credit card on a different console.

In that case you can possibly be banned if people report you for explouting glithces online
My advice is simply dont exploit any glitches when youre online, Kind of undermines the point of playing with other people if youre just going to cheat ...
Moral is really just play fair and if you find a glitch report it, really a game is more fun when you just play it, once you find a god-mode glitch or something that makes the game exceedingly easy it stops being fun. although some cases a glitch can just add comical elements to the game, most of the time as long as it wont boost your score or cheat others you wont get banned. As for Un-banned well as we all know money can buy you anything -_^
It depends on the circumstances. Banned consoles cannot be unbanned at all (there permanently banned). People confuse a suspension with being banned, a suspension is not a ban. Banned is BANNED...no way back. That said, there is a few different type of suspensions..COMMUNICATION suspension (usually voice and all other ways of transmitting is disabled by Microsoft) and ONLINE PLAY suspension (not being able to log into LIVE at all) ...those type you do eventually get your privileges back. But if your console ever says banned when you do the check in the settings menu..you're done, kiss your online play goodbye forever on that console. Lastly, profile bans are specific to that specific gamertag..so if you do make a new one then you can get back on LIVE. But for the most part Microsoft rarely gamertag bans unless it's a insulting gamertag where they make you change it (but that's still not being banned)...they mostly always hardware ban the actual console if it's been modded/hacked.

That would only get you banned if there are numerous separate reports. The big thing ms won't tolerate is racism. Several years ago that was a major problem in Halo 2.
