I've been considering on buying a 360 here sometime soon. My question was about ahievements. Do I have to have an active online connection for them to work? Because I do have internet, but it's wireless right now. And I'll have to buy the wireless adapter for it to get online down the road. I was just wondering, because if I did have to have internet I'll probabily wait on getting one till December. Thanks!
Sure you can get achievements offline, although you won't be able to show them off to anyone (only for yourself of-course). But when you get the adapter for your 360 it will automatically upload your achievement score to xbox.com and so on.
that presents a problem. See your acheivements you make offline work perfectly fine offline but say you make your game tag BOB, when you go online it will automatically make your tag BOB. If someone has BOB then it will require you to change your name, when you change your name you loose the achviements attached to your previous name.

Oh, it doesn't matter, because you won't be online. Only if you choose that name for an XBL account will it care. And making an offline account takes about 1 minute. Just choose your name and gamer pic, and voila.
XBL accounts take longer, I suggest making it on Xbox.com then recovering it.

Then he looses his achievements on the profile he created on the 360. Just press join xbox live on the 360 when signed in with the profile with your achievements. And if it says the user name is taken, just try another until it works.
Sure, but what's the point if nobody else can see them?

There is a point, I dont care about my Gamer Score, but achievements still give games better replay value because they give you a goal after the game is complete, Keeps me playing,thats for sure.

If you make a name offline and then go online and find out that someone has your "tag" already then it won't let you do it. Any achievements you have obtained up to that point will stay with your offline tag and you will have to create an online tag. What I suggest you do is go to xbox.com and register there, setting up a gamertag already, mirror that tag onto your console and then when you are ready to go online use the "recover gamertag" option to synch the two.
I finished GoW in hard mode online, but didn't give me the first two act achievement (neither norm or Hardcore), because I was offline when I completed those!!
Since this guy/girl HAS Internet access I would say just temporarily connect the 360 to Live, create the account as a Silver membership and then you'll have the name you want and the achievements will have a real account to be associated with and when you eventually get online, everything is golden........except your account (lame I know).
youve been contemplating buy a 360 for the past forever and you post threads on a daily basis asking whether or not you should buy it...why dont you just finally go buy one?
