Hi everyone,
I realize I am very late getting into the Xbox 360, but I just purchased an Arcade and wondered if I can use an external HD or a thumbdrive via the Xbox's USB ports instead of buying a Xbox HD?
Thanks for you input.

Nope, MS made everything proprietary so you have to buy their stuff. You can get a used 120gb hdd off amazon for $70ish. Don't waste your money buying a new one... the only problem is that most are black ones from Elites so it'll clash with your white and grey console.
No, you can't use an external HDD or thumb drive. I think Arcade consoles have some flash memory built-in for game saves. I think it's either 256MB or 512MB.x-2tha-z
Newest ones have 512mb, ones from a year ago have 256mb and the oldest arcades came with memory cards and nothing on the mobo.
Thank you both for the information ...
Mine does have 512MB of internal memory, but obviously that will not be sufficient for DLC and games like Forza 3 with 2 discs. So, off to ebay I go to pick up an el cheapo HD :)
Be careful if you buy from eBay. I remember Reading a while ago that some of the HDD's being sold on eBay were fake. I wouldn't buy a used HDD either, especially with so many possibly being used on banned 360's. I know they're expensive, but you'd be best to just spend the cash on a new HDD from a trusted retailer. It could end up saving you from a lot of hassle.Thank you both for the information ...

Mine states 256MB on the package, but when i checked the memory it shows 320MB (some of the 512MB internal memory is used for the system). By chance, are you just looking at the packaging or did you check the system?
