I love retro gaming i have fond memorys of old schools games such as sonic mario and even pong, but the other day i went back on my old ps1 and i couldnt look past the awful graphics (thats not a dig at the ps1). It made me wonder if 3D graphic matter alot more than 2D graphics and if more modern consoles could ever become retro.

what do you guys think?

Nope, Well maybe, I don't see how, unless they make an amazing 3d mario world? or something? With amazing graphics maybe with natal?

So idk... I guess? 50/50 chance?

give it ten to fifteen years and this generation is retro. Five to ten yars would be when it was last generaion. Thats how retro works, something gets old but it is still loved. The games that would becomeclassics would be the best games, like Oblivion and Gears of War. Soon VR games will bedeveloped and thats partly because the Wii jumped to that direction, and we are just experimenting now on mind controlled prosthetics. Mental impulses control the robotic hand, games would put your mind to the test. More realism is what the developers aim for and VR is the ultimate realism.

A few years ago, if you showed me a PS2 game, I would have thought the same thing - "There is no way this could ever be 'retro'!"

But lo and behold, this console gen PS2 games are starting to seem quite retro to me.

So the answer is yes.

You wouldn't think so now, but all these games that we are playing now are going to look retro to us in 15, 20 years.

All consoles have the posibilitie to download old games (n64, ps1, ps2, xbox) and people do make downloads and enjoy the old games.

I think eventually. In twenty years time, I would still think something like Modern Warfare 2 or BioShock looked absolutely brilliant. Would love to know the situation at that time, if I'm still around. :P

Of course they will. It's hard to imagine it now but give it 10 years and the 360 and PS3 will look like retro consoles. Just like the N64, PS1, and so on. Back in the SNES days it was hard to imagine those games being retro because they were modern and advanced back then.

the thing is most games these days go for graphics, where back in the day it was all about the gameplay, can you really tell me that there are games these days that would take you months to beat (not rpg's) some games for snes took me months to beat because you would make the final boss and die and have to start over so i dont think so

well, just look at shadow complex. its an amazing blend of new and old. takes the best things about old, exploration games, including the very format, and updates it with some new guns and whistles that help to enhance rather than overpower the experience.

I can't find the PS1 to retro either it just feels old, but on the other N64 FTW. Just hooked up my old 64 in my room, I'm rocking me some Mario Kart 64 and the original SSB

I find old retro games to still look good and play well, though the modern older consoles the games just look...old and not retro.

good 3-D gaming can be considered retro right now, just look at mario 64 that it does not look good but gameplay wise is amazing
