I have on seperate occasions purchased two different headsets for gaming in general. Good Xbox Live chat support is a must so I'm asking in this forum.

One of which is the Turtle Beach X3, which was a decent headset with excellent Live Chat support. The headset was wireless over IR which worked decently and it plugged directly into the 360 controller for both Xbox live chat microphone and headset support so in that respect it worked flawlessly. The biggest complaint about this particular unit was that the game sound quality was poor. Eventually the microphone broke and I was forced to get another unit.

The next unit I purchased was the Triton AX360. Great sound quality, myriad of input types including 5.1 chan analog over 1/8" headphone plugs, but miserable Xbox live headset support. The headset had a microphone which could plug into the Xbox controller, but there was no support for Xbox live headsets. Instead you had to change your profile settings to mix game and chat audio over the normal speakers which meant screwing with the volumes on pretty much every game you own (assuming that every game even allows you to) in order to get the headset and game audio properly balanced. This headset will be fine for me on PC, but for gaming on 360 over Live this is a dealbreaker.

Any suggestions? Please only suggest headsets you have actually used so I can ask questions.

How much are you thinking of spending because there are some sick headsets with very good ratings but they cost a couple hundred bucks.

1) No it isn't the only true 5.1 headset.

2) It suffers from the same Live headset support issue as the AX360.

Really? Would you please name another headset, with a mic, that offers true 5.1 surround. The Tritton is the only headset that has true 5.1 surround sound. Look it up. It has 4 speakers in each ear cup whereas the other top models only have two speakers and use virtual surround. I checked Skullcandy, Turtle Beach and the Astros, which are a sponsored headset by MLG. None have true 5.1 surround, I did a lot of research into this last month.:)

On a side note the Astros are meant to be played close to the monitor. I checked the lenght of all the cords and Astros were the shortest. The Turtle beach are mostly wireless and the Tritton reaches about 12 feet.

However I agree with your second point.

Well, for starters how do you define "true" 5.1? If you are talking about having four speakers per cup then the AXPro is not the only model because I can name at least two other Trittons off the top of my head that also have that feature, including my old AX360 which I indicated in my initial post was great minus the headset support.

Which two can you name? I would appreciate it, even though I already purchased my own pair, I like to stay tech savvy. Also, true HD is four speakers per cup andI was just making the point the the Tritton's are the only ones that have this feature.
