Yes it can. I am getting 1080p output through component cables.

I use the component cables and my TV says it is outputting at 1080p, Some TV's can do this and some can't. I have a Sarp Aquos 1080p. One of the top leading TV makers!

You don't need HDMI. The Xbox 360 can output 1080p through component cables , as will as using a VGA cable. This all depends on your TV of course, if it accepts 1080p signal from a component source, or even has VGA port respectively.

Yes it can. Most TV's wont accept 1080P through component though. But, it will do 1080P through all connections (component, VGA, and HDMI).

Yeah, if you are going to do component make sure your TV does 1080p through it. I was lucky enough to purchase one that does that. It has 4 hdmi slots as well so that is what I was going to use but I just use my component cables so I can use my surround sound.

I have 1080p set up with component cables and it looks awesome - there is so much more detail now, when compared with the rca cables. I do have HDMI inputs on my tv, but sadly my 360 doesn't have the hdmi slot.
