You could connect, but no chance at all of playing with others online. You need a highspeed connection for Live, & that's a very low speed. Sorry.

Err what, no.

He will not host games but playing with others is more than possible. Most games would work with 56k if it where not for the occasional burst-downloads.

You can compare it with fps-servers on pc:s, clients seldom go higher than 56k but the server/host sends ALOT more.

Yeah it should be fine. I used to have that speed a while ago, and i could play online with very little if any lag at all.

I stand corrected then. I thought you needed at least 512kbs to play online. My apologies for the misinformation.

You should be fine. I only have a 512kb connection due to my stupid college apartment's built in ethernet, and I play completely lag-free. You just won't be able to be surfing/downloading on the computer and on XBL at the same time, etc.

Edit: And like the above poster said, downloads will be painfully slow. Like a few hours+ for a demo download.

Depends on your upstream speed. I'm assuming that 256kb/sec is your downstream speed. IIRC, XBLive requires a minimum of 128kb/sec--64 each way. If your upstream speed is at least 64kb/sec, then you should have no difficulty.

That said, as plenty of other people have mentioned, don't host a game with a link like this. And for big downloads, it's perhaps best to leave it running either overnight or while you're doing single-player stuff.

It's true I've played online GEoW matches with 56k.

I play 360 on 100.0mbps, I think you could play on 256. I have no problems whatsoever. My friend even played on 60k the other day and was getting fast speeds on COD4.

256k will work, just make sure you are hard wired and that you have all computers turned off. I used to play 360 on 256...not that bad.

I call BS, maybe you went into the matches but it's probably so laggy it's hard to move.

I think Halo 3 and COD4 have dedicated servers, so you should be able to play those at least. But on games like R6V2 and Gears you'd probably have some nasty lag.

I used to, it's not great, but it's definitely playable.
