Can you copy game saves to memory card?

Hi All.i was just wondering,as i don't want to lose my game saves,if i buy a 360 memory card,can i copy all my game saves onto it?

Cos when i bought my Elite recently,i tried just swapping the 120 GB hard drive i already hadstraight over from my pro,but found games wouldn't work cos i got message-these games have been installed on different console,so eventually i got right fed up and formatted the HD and lost all my Gears,Gears2,Halo 3 etc gameplay.
