Is it possible to get 1080p from a premium, arcade or core console? because they do not have a HDMI out put. And do you think MS will make some sort of accessory for your 360 that plugs into the 720p AV out put and transforms it in to a 1080p out put for full HD T.V or is that just impossible?

I thought that even though you can get 1080i & 1080p from the xbox, the games themselves are only done in 720p ? Anyone else hear this ? Very possible I am wrong.

No, any model can support 1080p across any form of media... a while ago, an update allowed 1080p to traverse VGA and Component as well...

There is no difference in the hardware between the different types of 360s, they are all the same base hardware, they just come in different bundles, the only difference are the new and old version which both support 1080p...

The games are all different in what they support, some games support 1080p, some support 720p...

only some games are 1080p e.g the newer ones, but most older 360 games only have an output of 720p

Does running a game in 1080p impact the performance?

I know from PC gaming that every time you increase the resolution it usually results in a drop in framerate. Going from 720p to 1080p adds a lot more pixels for the console to produce.

all 1080p does is make it progressive scan so it has potential 60 fps instead of 30 with interlaced, same detail just faster refresh so action looks cleaner, not so jaggy and eh, thats the advantage of 720p over 1080i with gaming, the 720 has 60 fps too.

well if you've got a newer Premium/Pro. system,it outputs exactly the same as the Elite. As the only difference in the Elite is the casing colour+hard drive size. The internal components are exactly the same.

I know from PC gaming that every time you increase the resolution it usually results in a drop in framerate. Going from 720p to 1080p adds a lot more pixels for the console to produce.

Avenger1324

First of all, almost all 360 games, with exception of a notable few, are actually rendered in 1280 x 720p resolution and if the game "supports" 1080p, it's being upscaled. And even some games are rendered below 720p like Halo 3 rendered at 564p, and Call of Duty 4 rendered at 600p if I remember correctly, then they are upscaled to fit larger TVs. A game has to be programmed to be upscaled like in the case with Halo 3, as it does support 1080p and 720p, those are the upscale resolutions.

Now as far a framerate drops go, console games are built with a "target" resolution in mind, which is typically the highest rendering resolution they'll be using and of course 720p is the norm. 1080p rendering though is quite a daunting task though as the 360 and PS3 are both mal-equipped for handling such high output at decent framerate without sacrificing many details in the process.

The bottleneck is usually at the TV. My Samsung plasma (and many other HDTVs) won't accept a 1080p signal through component. So I'm stuck running at 1080i or 720p. If I want 1080p, I'll have to buy a new 360 with HDMI. Not worth it in my opinion.

ALL versions of 360 use the same hardware and ARE capable of 1080p, Core system will not do it straight out of the box as it only has AV cables, you need to purchase component or HDMI for the core system to do it, but that is a technical issue not harware. Then it depends on your TV, if it's full hd then you'll get 1080p otherwise 1080i may be the highest you can go.

I thought they made an adapter that plugs into the A/V output port on the 360 and on the other end it's an HDMI connector? That way the peeps with the older 360's (HDMI-less) could still plug it into an HDMI-equipped TV.
