After playing one game of MW2 after not playing for a month , I got 3 messages to join a modded lobby and pay 1600 ms points. I knew cheating was a problem but since all these ppl are messaging about blatant cheating, can't they easily catch and ban these guys??

How about you give the users a bad reputation and file a complaint?

How do you suggest they fix it? All someone has to do is create a new membership everytime their account gets banned. Just deal with it and delete.

How about you find a better game? In all seriousness, MW2 was designed to be exactly like this. If it bothers you, find another game.

Thats ass-backwards. MW2 was designed to be exploited? No, I am pretty sure it was designed to be a FPS competitve multiplayer game.

Why don't you do what you did a month ago and stop playing it? That game is built around a broken structure and crap like this was just waiting to happen.

In every good game you will find someone exploiting, for example if you play World of Warcraft you will be offered cheats, mounts, gold etc for money. When a game gets big you also get people wanted to exploited it for game, bit like real life really :P

I hear what your saying but I thought I would give the second map pack a try. I do report them but I am just wondering why it is not easier to get rid of these ppl especially when they message the fact they are cheating. Not sure what you mean by "broken structure". I am aware that all online games are subject to hackers but I expect it to be better policed when you pay a yearly premium. And yes I have a PS3 too but I don't play any FPS on it which are the most hacked kind of games as far as I know.

Interesting...does that mean only friends can send messages? I don't expect MS to read every message but I was amazed it was 3 messages for the same kind of thing after one game. To me that seems rampant and above the expected.

And the thing is I am not really ranting about the cheating, just wondering why/how the ones that involve messaging for money can't be weeded out easier by MS. Other bans for hacks and stuff would require proof and inspection of the data (but what do I know). I wish you could see who gets banned so you could have some faith in the reporting system.

Well they can ban consoles you know. Don't you think banning the account would work too? I know I would not want to pay to get a new account every time my GT got banned.

Maybe if you reported these guy for these messages you'd make it that much easier for Microsoft to punish these guys.

I did. Assuming a lot of ppl do the same then they should not take long to get banned, but since it is so prolific I am thinking that it is not working.

Yes I had my profile set to private for a year and the first day I turned it to public I got called the N-word just because I beat this kid for about a year at TF2. I thought it was funny but then I switched it back to private.

But then that is bad for business. You dont see GameSpot banning your PC from GameSpot for spamming. Nope, just warnings and suspensions.

Why would they ban their consoles? In a country (mostly Canada, but applies to a lot of American states too) that does not like giving the death penalty, nor any severe punishments to con artists and those *insert that special name here, I forgot what it was* people that con millions of investors out of their money, what kind of a backwards company would ban an entire family's console for one cheater? Anyways...this is a game, people should be allowed to cheat IF they want to within their own group. After all, if you are smart enough to figure out a way to mod a game, then you should get to do it. The Japanese saw the logic in this, they create private hacked servers and play with friends and other random people who willfully join hacked and modded games.

Having dedicated hacked servers would do nothing. People who hack in online games do it to get the higher rank , hence the prestige boosting offers. I have no problems with people who like to do crazy stuff like fly or jump a mile high because at least that is entertaining and obvious. If you have no confidence in the developers or ms to cut down/stop cheating then you never really know if you lost to skill of the game or skill of cheating. It just takes a lot of the fun out of the game in my opinion.

No, they ban your account, not your PC. Your free to make another one (against the ToU, however). In any case, you will never get banned for spamming. They may suspend your account for a long time but they will not ban your account. You also have to think of it from a PR perspective. If they started banning consoles for not violating any laws (because they only ban your console if you break your contract and/or violate any laws, such as piracy, or threatening to kill someone) then those people will spread the word that Xbox 360 sucks, ect, and will defect to PS3. Its all about the numbers. If Xbox LIVE subscribers drop and PSN subscribers go up then who wins?

Well the messages are sent through live not in game. I think you are the one who does not understand. I will put it simply just for you - My post asks if ppl are sending you messages to give them money so they can use their modded xbox to boost you why should it be hard for MS to stop/ban them. The messages sit on THEIR servers and Live has its terms of service. I did not sigh or accept terms of service from infinity ward or any other game maker, just MS. You think the makers is responsible for enforcing MS terms of service? So if you did not understand the original post I am not talking about cheating in general just the ones where they message about it.

Becuase finding these messages require a list of key words like "mods" "modded" "lobby" "Microsoft" "points" and stuff like that. Yes, it would filter out a lot of the messages, but it would filter innocent messages too. Here's some examples that would get filtered out that shouldn't be, red is a bad message that SHOULD be filtered, green is a good message that SHOULDN'T be filtered.

"Send a message to join my modded lobby!" "Have you played Half Life 2 with Garry's mod?"

"Do you know any MW2 mods?""Hey dude I just modded my iPhone, want me to mod yours?"

"Get your gamerscore modded for only 800 Microsoft points""How many Microsoft points do the new MW2 map packs cost?"

Though, what MS could do, is make a keyword list and rank each message by how many keywords each message has. If it has a large ammount of keywords, they would filter it. If it has a low amount of keywords, it wouldn't be filtered. Like this:

"Join my MW2 modded lobby for 1600 [MSP logo]!" That would have 4 keywords, and would be filtered

"I just played a modded game of CS:S, wanna join?" This only has 1 keyword, therefore it wouldn't be filtered.

The problem with this is that innocent messages would still be filtered, and people would get around this keyword system by typing with numbers like "J01n muh M0dd3dz lobb13 1*6-0-0 M1cr0s0ft P()l/|/Tz!!!1!!one"

Get the point? I hope that wasn't too many colors :P

They don't necessarily have to filter out the message. it could just be flagged for a random check. I think filters can be programmed pretty smart too and it would at least cut down on it even if ppl find ways around it. I think your point on having more than one word hit would work pretty good. I don't know if I agree with your examples. Garry' mod would be for computers, talking about modding iphones is also probably against ToS, and MicroSoft Points would obviously not be in the filter list, but I get your point.

However in WoW's case, people can't cheat like that on Blizzard's servers. Sure they can sell you gold and what not, but you can't just activate wall hacks that allow you to see through walls. It's not like you can up your damage to 1 million a hit. You have to go to a private server to exploit the game in the same sense that CoD is exploited. For example, for CoD to be exploited similarly to WoW, it would be more along the lines of being able to buy a better gun from someone; it ultimately doesn't make a difference.

BaconB1ts123

They were just examples though... and you never know, someone may be talking about Garry's Mod or iPhone jailbreaking. And talking about jailbreaking/modding/unlocking iPhones is against the ToS?? Why would M$ care?

Edit: Didn't see the "probably." I still don't think M$ would care though...

[QUOTE="BaconB1ts123"][QUOTE="chaoscougar1"][QUOTE="BaconB1ts123"] ah, because we pay them $50 a year to play online with minimal cheating/hacking or at least expect them to deal with obvious ones.

hahahahha its infinity ward/activisions problem, MS isnt there to solve cheating in every single game, dont blame MS for something you dont fully understand

So if you did not understand the original post I am not talking about cheating in general just the ones where they message about it.

i dont think you have a clue how much it would cost, both financially and in terms of manpower, they would also have to set up a claims section incase incorrect messages were blocked etc etc your talking as if it is some easy, cheap and simple fix...

Well they have a filter on GameSpot plus mods to monitor the forums and I don't pay a dime for it. I never said it was easy or cheap you misinterpreted that one all on your own. What expertise do you have on the subject?

Again you are missing the point. I am talking mainly about the text part of Live. I do agree that a filter for voice would be unreasonable but I never suggested it. You think GS is "SPECIFICALLY" for forums? What does your general business degree have to do with running a gaming service from a technical stand point? Let alone what your dad does? Don't mind me if I just stop paying attention to your random posts that are arguing points I never made.

the fact of the matter is you want MS to solve a problem that is not theirs, you want them to stop you from getting messages you wouldnt like to receive. oh noes, you have to spend 30 seconds deleting 3 messages. yes, they are annoying, but it is not some major problem MS needs to spend time and money fixing, get over it

Me thinks the OP should be censored as this is clearly not going anywhere. Give it up, M$ is not going to do anything drastic about it except ban GT, you ask for an opinion which someone gives to you and yet you still are not happy. Take the 2 seconds to delete the message and MOVE ON! Trust me, you will be much happier doing that than continue to fight a losing battle. Go with the waves, not against them.
