Can't Update :(

Hello, I just got an xbox 360 the other day and I can't seem to be able to update the system. I went into system, test xbox live connection and everything goes fine and then it tells me "A console update is available from Xbox Live... etc" then i press update now and it gives me : "Update Failed, can't download update test your connection... etc."

I know it's not my connection because i'm able to stream music from my pc no problem. I'm not signed up for xbox live though because i haven't bought any online games so far, could that be the problem? They don't let anyone without xbox live to update their system :S? Or could it be something else?

You need to have an xblox live profile, seems normal to me, you need to be part of the Live community to actually make use of it and updates are part of it. Just make one of your account online but remembre you cant rename it, (atleast not without spending a lot of money) after making it a XBL profile.

Also Live is for more then live play, you could download demos, movies, trailers, expansion packs etc.

I had the same problem, and this is what i did. go to this page (http://www.xbox.com:80/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm ) and scoll down till you get to the part that says updating with a usb flash drive. click the link in step 2 and when its done downloading put it on a flash drive. turn the xbox off and put the flash drive in, and it will ask you to start the update. say yes, and then you can start making your gamer tag hope it helpsduckypotato
