You know when you think about it, chatting over XBL is useless, it's only used for thrash/rascist talk. The only time you would ever really need it would be to give out orders, which you never need in a game like Halo 3. Even on that rare occasion when there is some tactics involved, nobody ever follows the orders plus it's usually poor/vague advice (PROTECT THE FLAG!!!11). Have you guys ever been in a situation where the mic was worth something?

When you look at it like that, yeah it seems pretty useless, but if you take away voice chat from games like CoD4 or Halo 3, then they seem like they're missing a key component. While voice chat does seem to overflow with racist remarks and things like that, games just wouldn't be the same without voice chat. Besides, there's always the mute button.

i take it you don't make friends on xbl? ... i play with my actual friends (from school, work, friends of friends)and cousins. theres a few people on my friends list that i chit chat with while we play games who i've never met before personally or never will.

ture to that. my best firend just left for the army about 1 year ago. we talk all the time, we play gears all the time. kill two birds one stone you open a chat, get into a game and its like we are in the same room together. plus it works when you tell your team where the they are coming from like behind you.

its useless if you're alone and not playing with friends or a clan, unless you can find some social people. and its not always stupid info like "protect the flag". when i was with my clan playing graw, we had actual strategies for some maps, and we could adjust our strategiues during chat going on during the game. i can see if your just playing with random people it might be less used, but dont call it completely worthless.

it's very useful when you play squad orientated games like Rainbow Six: Vegas.

what are you talking about?!! it's not useless at all. i use it to talk with friends while we play, send audio messages instead of writing, eating ice cream etc etc

i wouldnt say its worthless. personally i wouldnt have all the people on my friends list if i didnt have a headset (the people i know in real life dont have 360s, therefore i make friends by just talking to the nice people on xbl). allthough i dont tend to just talk alot in matches cause some people say my voice is funny coz im only 13 and its only starting to break, so somtimes i question why i use it. but with games like scda i find it helpful to sort of strategize with the team and just chat. i can understand where youre coming from but i have to disagree

I'd agree with most of the posts, if you are playing with friends it would be awesome. Unfortunately most of my friends are too cheap to buy an xbox 360; and the ones that do have 360's are too cheap to buy xbox live! It sucks, but oh well.

Play rainbow six, there's a reason you get booted out of games because you have no mic.

if you started "giving orders" to me, i wouldnt listen either! theres nothing worse than some little nob telling you what to do in games!

According to your reasons, I'm guessing that you're not a very helpful person in multiplayer. Do you invite your friends when you play? I use the mic strategically many times...it's most useful in objective-type games... your friends will listen to you, unless theyre really not your friend.

i had someone called 'mythirdeye' having a go at me because i was better then him

if people trash talk you then ignore them, go to there rep

but if you were on a team lets say playing capture the flag you could tell your team mates which way your going and where to cover you.
