So I have an Premium model from a year after launch (actually a refurb) that hasn't been sounding so great lately and I have a friend who would give me $80 for it without the HDD. I was wondering if it was possible to remove the Chrome trim on the disk drive and put it on an arcade model if I sold mine and bought one to replace it. Also, does anyone have any input on if they like the chrome trim or not and if you have bought an arcade as a replacement for your original box?

Thanks for the help.

you'd basically have to open up the console, take out the disc drive and put it in the arcade, it won't be pretty and you'll probably screw up both. OR, you can get chrome spray and do it yourself.

The bezel pops off pretty easily, but the same can't be said for the open/close button. You would have to open the entire case to remove that.

Yeah i found out with some experimenting that the bezel is easily removed, but I don't think the same is for theopen/close button. I guess I'll just leave it since I don't want to compromise the new Xbox's warranty (the old Xbox is out of warranty and the 3 year warranty as well). Would the chrome paint idea be viable or could it cause damage to the system/not be able to send it to microsoft for repairs? Thanks again.

Umm, I don't understand the question.

My buddy had a premium that broke, and he bought an Arcade. His HDD popped right off the premium and onto the Arcade.

I have used my 120 GB HDD from my elite on his Arcade as well. The drives are made to be interchangeable, so why would you have to do anything to make it fit?

You need to re read the OP. I just got a Arcade to replace my pro and I kinda like the plain white tray door. I would not mess with it and since the eject does not come off I don't think...... You could paint the new one if you really wanted a crome finish!

No it doesn't come off without a fight, which I didn't try to do :P. I'm trying to find a good image with the to compare. I really like my chrome, but I guess I could get use to plain white too :|

He's not talking about the Hard Drive...hes talking about the Drive tray door, which on the older models is chrome coloured, but now is completley white

Unless you're willing to void your warranty and risk ruining your 360 for a chrome trim I don't recommend you do it.

My apologies, not sure why I said that to be honest. Yes, the Arcade and Core models are white, the Pro/Premium and Elite models are Chrome Thank you for clearing that up
