I'm trying to decide between cod 4 or 5. i played all the MoH games, COD 1, 2, and 3. i think i'm kinda tired of WWII games. same guns. same crap. since COD4 is getting older now, how many people still play it? would 5 have more players online? also, i hear the maps are bigger. how much bigger? is it bigger in a good way, or is it bigger cuz they felt like it and it doesn't do much to the gameplay? I'm a Battlefield 2 veteran. I loved that game. would i like cod4? i look at the reviews and it looks a lot less complicated than BF2's command and squad system. but it seems to have a more complex upgrade and rpg element. please correct me if i'm wrong.
Between, COD4, and COD5. Its 1 simple question, WWII, or modern :P
In my experience the COD5 maps are slightly bigger, but also have places were there is just barren open-field, unlike COD4. Multiplayer is about the same, and still alot of players on each.
4 all the way. Its still one of the top 3 games played on xbox live (you can see the top 10 on majornelson.com) and its an awesome game. COD:WAW isnt bad but it just doesnt feel that great after COD4.
As a fellow BF2 (PC) veteren let me first say --- this is NOT BF2.
Now, that being said, I love both 4 and WaW. So it is hard for me to choose. But whatever one you do pick will come down to flavor of weapons and setting. Do you like modern more or WWII weapons. Do not worry about people playing....seriously. We are talking about 2 of the top 5 games on XBL.

Oh don't call it COD5, you will have some over-zealous title police telling you that it's not 5. So I call it "Cod WAW" to avoid scrolling down pass the massive idiotic arguments about the name. A lot of people play COD 4 still. COD WAW also has a lot of players in multi. Relax you won't run out of players for years. Even COD 2 and 3 still have a few heads to shoot. -COD WAW maps are larger, but there are small ones also for fast frantic smg exculsive firefights...I just use the DP-23 and mow em all down hah. Anyways, some the maps are pretty big, think Eder Dam or Poission in COD 3. -If You like Battlefield 2 then you will like both COD4 and WAW, both play faster than the BF series. WAW at times feels faster paced than COD4. -Yeah you could say it's like an RPG element to a degree, a very simplistic one, level up to get guns and equipment/perks. I had to delete my last post, I didn't feel it was detailed enough.

I'd go CoD 4 if i were you, a lot of people are going back to it after trying CoD 5. The upgrade system is a bit more complex, you will unlock weapons, attachments and camo for them, and special traits/abilities called perks

it's not bf2. is that good or bad? i appreciate all the feedback. i'm leaning towards cod 4 for the modern aspect. i played too much ww2 shooters. is there a squad system or any kind of battlefield command system like in bf2? or is it more like css with upgrades?
honestly, i was tired of all the WWII games as well, but all of the features in CoD WaW are great. Play mission that are ment to be solo with friends, HUGE online community, Nazi Zombies, Great story, Etc. unfortunatley, all of the newbie perks are still there including Juggernaut and matyrdom. I would choose World at war. Modern was a great change and was, in my opinion one of the greatest games of the year, but im still going with WaW for the listed reasons.

My answer would be, yes. Get them both, 4 and then 5. You decide which you like better, if you don't like one, or the other, trade it in for a new game or for the other COD. I personally own both of them, and love both of them. They're great games and very different from each other.
I just hated W@W... Not as good as CoD4, modern feels so much better... All the guns and attachments are just right. I hate using out dated guns which lack accuracy and have a ton of recoil...I'd rather play something more satisfying...
Everybody who knows what they're talking about will say CoD 4 is better. For starters, its engine is original. WaW had to borrow the engine from CoD 4. The gameplay, in my opinion, is smoother, and I think in WaW the enemy has a smaller target area in online mode. Because there are occassions where I know I hit the guy, but it's just not damaging them. The tanks in WaW are WAY too overpowered, especially in Hardcore. The flamethrowr is a flat stupid thing to have, especially with it's infinite ammo. Bouncing betties are dumb, being as hard to see as they are. The Artillery sucks, but the trade off is the dogs are good, unless you're facing people who know exactly how not to get killed by them, then they suck. Downfall is the worst excuse for a map. Ever. But so is Downpour on 4, so I can't complain. Go figure their names are similar. Yep. 4 is better.
