I think a lot of people who say it's overrated are just annoyed by the fact that it's slightly more difficult and realistic. And I'm not saying you're one of them, I'm just saying that's what I've noticed. I personally think it's one of the best FPS's I've ever played. But I'm a sucker for RFII so I can't say it's the best, haha.
EDIT:
I do think it's the best single-player FPS I've ever played though. I've never been able to get into Half-Life, and every other game just pales in comparison to COD4's single player.

its overrated for me because its not difficult or even remotely realistic in fact its not different from past cod games by much at all and thats why at least for me the game is overrated. to be honest though innovation in FPS have almost come to a halt, its not that its impossible to do something new it just not profitable and that is what i see with COD4 a solid game but nothing out of the ordinary.
we all have different standards and taste so im not arguing that people who think it is remarkable are wrong or right they just have a different opinion which i respect.
yeah bought it on day 1 and liked the multiplayer for a while... gets really repetitive and the matching system SUCKS ANUS not a good system to meet friends and play with groups ( kick bad people out of room). It was my first COD game and I hate the auto-aim where you pull a trigger and it locks in makes the game take little/no skill.
Havent played it in a long time. Waste of $60 wish I had netflix then :(
Does anybody else think COD4 is the best.judowombat should have
It is the Best! :D
lol
j/k
There are loads of good FPS games, no one game does it all. ;)
Its a great online game, but its still running on a very old engine.
Its probably the best online game right now (along with Team Fortress 2 and Quake Wars), but its not bringing anything new to the tables... its just taking all the good things that have worked in FPS's in the last while and upping the ante a bit so to speak.
Great online game with a very short linear singleplayer..... great but not revolutionary like CRYSIS

yea same here
i borowed it off of a friend for a week, and i beat the single player on hardened in less than 5 hrs. i then spent the rest of the week playing multieplayer and i have to say, it is the easiest MP game i have ever played. i got everything i needed or wanted out of that game in a week, and i have no desire to play it again simply because i find it very shallow in concept and premis. everything in the game has been done before, and it pushes no boundries, it just happens to do everything realy well and thats fine. but it's nothing super special unless your some kind of military fetishist who loves war in the middle east and has erections for m16's.wreak
I'm actually not a fan of war games at all, and certainly not a military fetishist (quite the opposite actually) but I love this game. It's just fun. I don't think a game has to be revolutionary to be great... if it does what it does well, then it's just a plain good, fun game.

i'm not saying that the game has to be revolutionary to be good, i just brought that point up simply because EVERYBODY says that this game is the most innovative and revolutionary thing ever created in the history of video games period, and i'm just trying to put some perspective on comments like that. though i do find that all the ppl i know personaly who love the game do happen to have 24 hr erections for m16's and the blood of muslims.....just a personal observation.
Not goty material, But it's definitely the best game on the 360 in the FPS genre.
Nothing revolutionairy, just a whole lot of fun.
its a good game, i have played all the main COD since they were on the pc and COD 4 stays true 2 the COD name with fast pace intense action. However it does nothing really new except take it 2 the modern era, which is what the series needed.
However some people r making out that COD 4 was the greatest shooter ever made when in my opinion it wasn't even the best shooter of 2007, i just feel there were games like halo 3 with its more varied maps, 4 player co-op, more multi-player modes and theater and forge which r excellent additions to the series. Or Bioshock which was in my opinion a fresh take 2 the first person shooter genre. Even unreal tournament 3 which is just as fast as COD 4 game-play and offered more game-play modes and just as good graphics.
Now i am not saying that Cod 4 is not a good game it is and in my opinion was 1 ofthe standouts of 2007. But when compared 2 other games that came out in 2007, it didn't do quite enough to make it fully standout out amongst these titles 2 be classed as GOTY
U can flame me all u want COD fanboys, but this is coming from a COD fan who has played all the main CODs since the 1st 1 came out on the pc and this is just my opnion at the end of the day. So take it or leave it
Does anybody else think COD4 is overrated? Its a good game, but not the best.judowombat
You must not be that great at it. lol

lol, what?
Anywho... I don't think it's overrated per-say, but I think people who have made this game out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread are on somethin'
