I love both, but 4 wins for the sheer ferocity and excitement of the matches. Call of Duty 4 is somehow more exciting to play, more on-the-edge-of-your-seat. It plays faster, is more explosive, and generally more exciting. This isn't just because of the modern weapons though, anyone whose played both will notice that the maps in 5 are significantly greater in size than 4. Toning down the grenades and the WW2 weapons in general do a lot to sort of slow down how the game plays. Again this is all my opinion, I'm sure some people feel that 5 is more exciting.
CoD4: Pros: Great story, great multiplayer, well-rounded gameplay Cons: No Jack Bauer, my K/D ratio is lower than 1 WaW: Pros: Jack Bauer VOs, exploding limbs, I'm better at it (K/D ratio above 1) Cons: WWII setting, people who glitch in multiplayer
i really dont enjoy WaW. Its not fun. all the guns stink, none of them feel like they work the way they should. I rocked at COD4 and stink at WaW. sammyt555

quoted for the truth, but since im here, im going with WaW on this one because its "new". in cod4 im def. far from a n00b and in cod WaW i feel im a noob again and its something else to master. i play cod4 still but it doesnt have my full attention any more.
my oppinion both games over the past few months suck for online, since lately theres so many modders and glitchers. overall tho CoD4: like new guns over old ones but single shot assult rifles are overpowered especially for modders, WaW: better campaigne mode, weapons feel more balanced but tanks and dogs are overpowered, and again people glitching out of maps are impossible to kill. so overall i personally am looking for a new game as im probly going to get rid of both games in the near future unless they fix these problems. and before everyone starts i said this is my oppinion
As for single player I think 4 is better and as for multiplayer, I havn't really played world at war much but I played 4 for 250 hours so I love 4's multi but I don't really know about world at war's multi, form what I have played it's good I just really can't be bothered to play it. :P
My goodness, when will people stop making these?! When Modern Warfare 2 comes out, I wonder which comparison will spawn more repeated topics: "CoD:WaW vs. CoD:MW2" or "CoD 4 vs. CoD:MW2"...
I'm with the OP on this. Modern Warfare is king of the hill.
The storyline for World at War, chopped 'n chased around the place leading to a lack of continuity and character depth. Overall World at War is not a bad game, but it seems to rest on the laurels of the imported Modern Warfare engine. I found the multiplayer maps for MW had a better design and the action seemed to feel more natural.
I've only played the beta for WAW but I've not felt the urge to go out and get it - I still play cod 4 online like mad so I have to go for that one - WAW looks okay, but I don't think I'll probably buy it - when's modern warfare 2 out?
WaW single player missions and multiplayer maps are way better than the ones from MW, the only thing i like from MW is the weapons. And WaW also has the nazi zombie mod thats great
