Commander Shepard owns Master Chief - By far.

Before the flames start, please, hear me out.

Commander Shepard is the savior of the galaxy. Master Chief is also the savior of the galaxy. However, with Shepard, you're allowed to choose your own path in a way never demonstrated before. You can be savage, or sympathetic. Befriend or betray. Shepard shows his face because he dares the universe to stop him. Master Chief wears a helmet at all times, to prevent any alien debris from possibly irritating his eyeballs.

Master Chief has the worst voice ever. I always thought that Marcus Fenix should have been the voice for Master Chief. He just sounds too soft to be dependable. If he's going to have that debris deflecting helmet permanantly gorilla glued to his neck, the least he could do is add some kind of voice modulator to make him sound bad ass. On the other side of the spectrum, Shepard can not only switch appearance, and voice, but also sex if the need be. Score one for the Commander.

Shepard plays by his own rules. Chief follows the guidelines as set forth by the military. Even if he gets a gut instinct, he ignores it in an effort to "stick to procedure". Shepard shoots human and alien alike on pure inkling alone. Nobody gets in the way of Commander Shepard's primal instincts. Not even Master Chief.

Hence, in my opinon: Commander Shepard is a far better hero than Master Chief.

yeah but ME is an RPG wat a RPG wit out any of those decision making urself right? i'm not in favor of either really but i think master chief's voice is just fine for him, his voice isn't too soft to be dependable, voice gotz notin to do wit it man, its his actions, he shoots aliens but not humans cuz they're not his enemy, give him a human enemy n pop pop bang that guy is dead lol

Okay here's my opinion.

Both the MC and Shepard make for horrendous saviours of the galaxy (GASPPP).

Both are severely lacking in any form of meaningful personality and neither partake in any dialogue that would make you go "wow that was deep. this dude's awesome for saying that." Lines like "tell that to the Covenant" are only psuedo-cool and lose their flair very fast. The MC is a very very flat character once you get past the fact that.. well.. he's the MASTER CHIEF!!! As far as character traits goes, MC is basically an emotionless asskicking cyborg who has a deep voice and has a digital chick in his head. He's essentially devoid of any real personality.

And as much dialogue as Shepard takes part in ME, none of them give Shepard any actual personality. I say this beacuse the dialoue that Shepard partake in are entirely interchangeable. He's able to morph his "personality" at will, saying something like "no one deserves to be treated this way" and then all of a sudden saying something like "I can't let you live. You must die, scumbag!" The option to partake in conversations like this really detract from any meaningful character development. Plus, the voice acting is generic at best. The extremities of Shepard's good/evil personalities are all shades of gray, which is good in the sense that he's not the stereotypical good/bad guy, but it also makes him sort of shallow. As a result, you never truly feel attached to Commander Shepard. Boo.

ANyways, there's my two cents.

All I saw in that post was Master Chief's voice sucks, I don't know what voice you heard but it is kick ass no matter what you say.spitshine1144

MC's voice is no doubt pretty badass, but that doesn't necessairly make him a good character.

so all of a sudden the game needs to be part of a trilogy to be good? that's news to me.

here's some news to you: the publicity surrounding the Halo triology has been funded by that sort of big company called Microsoft, which logically would make the game overrated if anything. (this is purely hypothetical of course...) Does this make this game more enjoyable than others? Heck yes. everybody's playing it and it's the coolest game ever. But does it really have substance beyond its publisher that's backing it up with loads of cash, making it sells milliions of copies? that's up to the critics to decide.

there is nothing wrong with pointing a finger at games like Halo. comparing smaller-publisher-based titles like ME to big beasts like Halo is good fun.

Solid Snake trumps both Mater Chief and Shepard. Snake is badassery in its purest form. MC and CS don't come close.
