Uhmmm not so much friend, if it keeps locking up on you for no apparent reason.. I'd take it back to the store and get it replaced because chances are it's just waiting to fail on you.. Mine use to lock up quite a bit, and after about 5 months I got the RRoD on it, then I bought a new 360, that one "Red-Ringed" as well, and now I have a new one that I haven't had any problems with so far, no lockups or anything... So hopefully you get this problem fixed.
Best of luck. Take care.
Why would you think that is commonmy 360 locks up occasionally? is this common? gets aggravating sometimes.. is there a proper way to shut down the 360 similar to a cpu? is there any HD maintance we should do like on a regular cpu, scandisk, etc.?? I cant seem to find any..
Python423
I usually shut down my console by holding the big "x" button in the middle of the controller and selecting shut down.. I was always skeptical about turning it off manually because of all the other stupid problems I heard players have gone thru. I also open/close the tray using the dashboard, NOT MANUALLYsourcerahthats weird how do you open the tray when a game is in there?

The only way is with the DVD remote, so he must have one of those. The lockup isn't normal and it probably means it's on its way out, if it just happens on one game, it may just be the game, in which case I would install it to your HDD, if it's all games I'd give the hotline a call.
also i bought a cooling fan soon as I bouht the 360 and put on it.. any chance these things dont work and really make it overheat? no flashing lightsPython423BAD idea, first of all intercoolers void your warranty, and second, they cause more harm then good. It just recycles hot air back inside the console. take it off right away. as for locking up, it is not a common problem, if you can return it to the store do so, if not just be aware it will RROD on you soon. There is no scheduled maintenance you can do on it either. Just keep in an open area and that the best you can do.
