Uhmmm not so much friend, if it keeps locking up on you for no apparent reason.. I'd take it back to the store and get it replaced because chances are it's just waiting to fail on you.. Mine use to lock up quite a bit, and after about 5 months I got the RRoD on it, then I bought a new 360, that one "Red-Ringed" as well, and now I have a new one that I haven't had any problems with so far, no lockups or anything... So hopefully you get this problem fixed.

Best of luck. Take care.

I usually shut down my console by holding the big "x" button in the middle of the controller and selecting shut down.. I was always skeptical about turning it off manually because of all the other stupid problems I heard players have gone thru. I also open/close the tray using the dashboard, NOT MANUALLY

well it seems to be more game specific.. some games never do.. GTA4 did occoasionally until I installed it to the hard drive.. some games like TNA never lockup, but I've noticed MXvsATV unleashed locks up some here and there..

Actually it is common to lock up from time to time.. It all depends on how often you are talking about.. If it locks up all the time , you might have a problem.. I have had my 360 now for 2 years and no problems whatsoever even with the occasional lock up.. It happens...

The only way is with the DVD remote, so he must have one of those. The lockup isn't normal and it probably means it's on its way out, if it just happens on one game, it may just be the game, in which case I would install it to your HDD, if it's all games I'd give the hotline a call.

BAD idea, first of all intercoolers void your warranty, and second, they cause more harm then good. It just recycles hot air back inside the console. take it off right away. as for locking up, it is not a common problem, if you can return it to the store do so, if not just be aware it will RROD on you soon. There is no scheduled maintenance you can do on it either. Just keep in an open area and that the best you can do.

The 360 is the same as a PC, it will occasionally lock up. Just because it locks up at times don't be afraid that you will get the RRoD and go return it. When a computer becomes over processed pr pverheats, it may lock up. That is why it is important to make sure your 360 is in a well ventilated area. Also if you have it around other electronic components which emit heat, this could also contribute.

Ever since NXE came out, the 360's general interface has tended to freeze up very easily, especially when you do certain things that shouldn't cause any "lock-up" at all. And this issue doesn't have anything to do with the age of your 360 or anything; I bought a new system less than a month ago and I still have these same issues. NXE can be really glitchy and that's all the problem really is.

Mini-dash began to pause for a few seconds when checking friends, profiles etc, then began to freeze about 5 minutes into games followed by the RRoD not long after. Sounds like its on the way out.
