So, I am completely sick of playing my 360 games in standard definition. I can't afford to buy an HDTV or a newer Xbox with HDMI out. So instead I thought of a solution , but I'm not sure if it will work. My plan is to buy these three things: The component cables for my 360, a component coupler, and a component to DVI converter

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Component-HD-AV-Cable/dp/B000B6MLPU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1377386609&sr=1-1&keywords=Xbox+360+Component+HD+AV+Cable

Then I will be able to plug it into my computer monitor, which is more than capable of HD. I'm just not completely sure if it will work, and I don't want to buy a bunch of things I am never going to use. Can anyone tell me for sure if this is a viable solution?

By the way, sorry about the lack of proper links. They don't work on Firefox for some reason.

Hmmm, worst case is you lose $15. I'd take that as a temporarily solution over getting an HDTV, so if you're not too broke, go for it!

Imo I think it'll work, my friend had a setup similar to that

Ah a topic I actually know about
You need to make sure your TV supports DVI-I (which is the analogue version of DVI). You can do this by looking at the socket in your TV and comparing it to http://www.naplestech.com/images/compare-dvi-d-vs-dvi-i.jpg (these are the male side but you will get the idea)
Basically, if you have the DVI-D in your TV, then this solution will not work as the cable will not fit. If you have a DVI-I in your TV, then this solution will work as long as you can do the sound (see next point). If you have a DVI-D, you will not be able to get a component to DVI-D cable as there is no Analog to Digital converter out that will do this.
The other problem you will have is the loss of sound. The sound is off the other two connectors on the first cable you posted (red and white ones). You will then need an adapter to convert them to a jack, then put them into the input jack of your TV (assuming you have one) like you would a computer. I found this on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-3-5mm-Male-Female-inch/dp/B0018MI5F6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377422894&sr=8-3&keywords=female+phono+to+female
If you have none of these, I am afraid that it won't work, so your solution is unfortunately a new TV and Xbox.

Yeah, after posting this I did a bunch more research and realized there's no such thing as a Component to DVI-D (which is the only DVI option my monitor has). I was just about to lose hope though, when I found out they actually make VGA cables for the 360. Then I did a little more reasearch and learned that VGA can, in fact, display HD resolutions. Then whole reason I hadn't considered VGA in the first place is because I thought the quality would be low. So now I have found my solution, haha. The greater part is, I can easily switch between my PC and 360 input, and I have a great sound system plugged in here. Anyway, thank you very much for the help!

I'm not sure how that would make me un-American in the first place, but yes I live in the U.S. if that's what you meant.
