Condemned is scarier yes and has better melee combat, but to me Bioshock is the better gameZimpanX
From what I've played in the BioShock demo, yes, Condemned has better melee and an overall darker feel to it. I dunno, there's something more unnerving about hunting a serial killer through abandoned subways and condemned (no pun intended) buildings with impromtu weapons (i.e., pipes, rebar, etc). Plus everything feels more visceral in Condemned.
I had some "OH S***!!" moments with Condemned, but since I have yet to play the full retail version of BioShock, I don't know if it has those same moments.
I'm not hating on BioShock but I'm half way through and I believe that Condemned is a better game at this point. It really feels like BioShock is a regular FPS w/ outstanding graphics. Maybe I will change my mind when I finish BioShock but I get an overall better feeling when playing Condemned. The Mall and last area in Condemned was the scariest crap I have encountered in a video game. Anyone else feel this way?s14joeCondemned gets pretty damned repetitive and the taser removes 75% of the challenge of the very melee combat it prides itself on.
I really enjoyed them equally. Condemned was awesome cause it was scary as hell, right in your face combat. It was a very minimalist combat game.
Bioshock was complex, and the whole atmosphere was awesomely strange.
Condemned had a btter plotline, in my opinion, while Bioshock had a better backstory.

Besides that, I don't think that your comparison of the two is fair. Bioshock is meant to be an atmospheric, story driven, action based shooter. Can it be creepy? Definitely. Is it meant to be a horror game? Decidedly not. Condemned on the other hand is a straight up horror game. It happens to be in first person and the combat does have a lot of similarities to most FPS's, but 90 percent of the game's value comes from scaring the %#@* out of you every chance it gets, not from its combat. Condemned was never meant to be an action based game like Bioshock was. So long story short, you can't compare the two very easily and so which one you like better comes down to which genre you prefer. Obviously you prefer horror. I prefer atmospheric action. Different people, different opinions, two great games to enjoy.
They're both incredible games, although I think condemned is way scarier. The only problem I have with Bioshock is the conclusion. I played my way through it, enjoying every minute, and then the ending just sort of happened. Afterwards I was sitting there with a notable sense of disappointment. The game itself was definately awesome, but the ending just didn't do it for me.
I love both both Condemned and Bioshock, but there is really no contest between two. Apart the fact that they are 2 very different styles of game aside from their 1st person perspectives, Bioshock isinfinitely deeper andmore polished. Condemned is fund and scary as hell, but the graphics, especially in cut scenes, leave a lot to be desired. The 1st condemned also has a very clunky combat system. Trying to parry is highly frustrating and it often works better just to back up when your opponent lunges (Condemned 2 optimized this system to awesomeness with its use of 2-fisted fighting, combos, and a non-broken block). The story in condemned is also a bit underdeveloped and difficult to understand without playing the second game. When (SPOILERS!) strange supernatural cultists start appearing with no explanation and one of their members is the final boss, it makes it really hard to figure out what any of it has to do with SKX.
Bioshock, on the other hand, has incredible are design and much better graphics. Its FPS mechanics are well done, and plasmids are fun even if you ned up using the same ones over and over again. The story (and I know this a point of controversy) is, in my opinion, very good until the disappointing ending. The Anti-Aynn Rand theme about a objectivist utopia gone wrong is brilliant, and I found it very rewarding to collect all of the audio logs and experience the whole story. The end and final boss battle leave something to be desired. The entire game feels polished and shiny.
Never played both I like my Barbie games I guess, lol.:roll:XJackTheRippaXI think that there is room on the market for a Barbie-themed hobo beat-down simulator...

I played Bioshock when it came outand am playing Condemned only now and I'm amazed by the similarities. The mannequins and the whole setting is here in the store level of Condemned and it's executed so much better than Bioshock. Granted, Bioshock had some interesting elements but Condemned is better where it counts - in delvering the atmosphere and the genuine scare.Zbyram

Condemned (the original, never played the sequel) was great as well and one of my first 360 games. Overall, Bioshock wins because of the great story and immersion you get with that game. It takes a while to get going but then its a lot of fun.

I enjoyed Condemned more, chasing a serial killer through the darkest corners of a city> rapture. I expected Bioshock to be more RPG like and it wasn't, combat in Bioshock wasn't as fun as Condemned either. Just like F.E.A.R. I felt Bioshock was overrated.DarthBlivion
