how long does this take i have been sitting here for 20 minutes waiting for it to do its thing is it spouse to take this long or is there a problem

There is a problem. I have 2 16GB USB's in my slim and they each took roughly 30-45 seconds to format.

Make sure you are using either the Microsoft Xbox 360 USBs or Sandisk USBs (which I believe the MS Xbox ones are).
