I want to connect my xbox 360 to my laptop conputer-meaning I want to use the moniter and speakers. The only way to do that is to use this VGA connector:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/

Problem is, my laptop doesn't have AV ports (those round little red, white and yellow plugs). So, I was wondering if the VGA cable will work in combination with an AV to USB connector such as this one:

http://cooldrives.stores.yahoo.net/eausdvviavus.html

Will it work?

i think its possible, that vga cable comes with a little jack that fits into a laptop.

pic: http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-3148993w345.jpg

Just plug your AV into that jack thing(comes free with XBOX vga cable, along with a free gender changer) and you should be able to play =)

OK ill give you the basics.

AV jack- See at the end it looks like it goes into a place where you would plug your headphones into? Bingo.

Gender changer- In case your the VGA end of your VGA cable does not have the right gender (male, female) you can use this gender changer to make it the gender you want it to be.

I tried this on my PC moniter and it worked fine, I used the jack but not the gender changer, for a laptop you might have to use it, I don't know I don't have a laptop, but a laptop has all the places you need to plug the cables in so, yea im pretty sure.

EDIT: do you have the cable, or you're just thinking of buying it? If you have it try it out, see if it works, if not buy it, try it, if it doesn't work keep the receipt. It's 29$ where I live.

feel free to go any buy 20-30 worth of stuff and have it not work... or better yet go any tell someone else to buy 20-30 worth of stuff and tell them it will when it will not. I'm trying to save the guy money so he doesn't go and buy something he doesn't need. Just because you don't know enough about the technology and have a wounded ego doesn't mean you should make purchasing suggestions about things you don't know about.

mfp16 is probably right. I've owned many laptops, most high end and I have NEVER seen a laptop that has a VGA input. Outpust yes, plenty of them. In fact the laptop I'm typing this on has 3 video outputs, VGA HDMI & S Video. The only way I have ever been able to get a game system to play on a laptop is by using an external TV tuner and connecting the composite cables through that. A easy way to give a definite answer would be for the TC to post the make and model of his laptop. Then some humble pie would be in order.

tv tuners are terrible and have like frickin 5 second respond time, so unless he wants to lose every game he plays, i suggest he doesnt use that.

Odd, you completely ignored the part of my post where I made you look like an argumentive fool who has no idea what he was talking about and focused on the smallest detail in it.

I didn't suggest that anyone use a TV tuner, I said that was the only way I have ever gotten a game system to work on a laptop. What I did suggest is that we find out the make and model of his laptop before giving him any advice.

No, this is some idiot (you) posting false information on a forum then getting called out by a few people who actually know what they are talking. Yet the idiot (again, you) is refusing to budge from his original postion and resorting to personal attacks to try and save face, thus reinforcing the fact that he is an idiot.

Firstly, what's with the aggression man? someone needs Prozac.

Secondly, http://www.forlang.wsu.edu/images/vga.jpg now it doesn't matter what you say, that is a VGA CABLE inside of a laptop ok? THE VGA CABLE IS THE EXACT SAME AS THAT AND WILL FIT INTO THE LAPTOP.

That is an OUTPUT. The signal goes OUT. What that does is let you use a seperate monitor on your laptop. You can use this to connect to a larger screen or utilize dual monitors. It does not let you bring a signal IN. For that you would need an INPUT.

Keep posting more things that make you look like an idiot.

No, you have an LCD Monitor witha VGA "INPUT". All monitors have inputs. You obviously have no clue as to how a signal is transfered between two devices. I don't need to prove anything to you because I know how things work. It isn't worth my time to try and explain this to you, go ask a teacher or network professional.

No it isn't "beyond god". If the laptop has a VGA INPUT (not an OUTPUT which is what was shown in all your pictures) then yes it could be possible. That's a pretty big "if" though, I've yet to see any laptop that actually has a VGA INPUT.

If anyone else knows of a make/model that has this feature by all means post a link to it :)

There are aftermarket accessories available that would allow you to do this but they cost about $1000 (not really cost effective as a good widescreen monitor can be had for just a few hundred dollars).
