I have a HD TV and an LG home theatre system. Previously, I have connected the yellow AV cable to the video section of the TV and the red and white AV cables to the Aux section of the sound system - allowing me to have the audio through the home theatre system but the video through the TV. I have since purchased a HDMI cable, and when using it toconnect to the TV I can't connect my 360 to the home theatre system because it has no HDMI port and the original AV cable doesn't fit in the 360 while the HDMI cable is in there. Does anybody have a way to connect my 360 to the TV using the HDMI cord and the home theatre system at the same time?

I'm hoping you know that you can plug the RGB High Def cables from the 360 into your HDTV and plug the red/white audio cords into the sound system at the same time(you don't have to use the standard-def yellow video cord). I've had the same problem using an HDMI cable, but my HDTV has an audio output that I can plug separate Red/White audio cables into and put the input into the surround system.

What the gentlemen said above. But if you do not have that, you could purchase the Xbox 360 HDMI + audio dongle set from Microsoft. It's official brand but quite expensive. Try eBay and see if it's cheaper there. I also recommend taking this to the AUDIO/Video Hardware forum.

audio left and right aren't true surround, its just two channels being played through 4 speakers and a sub woofer. to be completely honest the Xbox 360's Component cables are quite wonderful and support up to 1080p, most of your Xbox 360 games are going to be played in 720p so HDMI or no its gonna be the same resolution. But you can remove the case around where your A/V plug plugs in and leave it with enough room for the HDMI to plug into the HDMI port. I saw a tut on Xbox360forums.com I believe, but Im not positive.

The best setup you can use with the 360 and a surround sound system is with the RGB Component cables for the HD video and the digital optical audio output built into the 360 component adapter - plugged into the surround sound system. Thats the ideal setup a 360 allows and the one I primarily use which sounds phenomenal, although theres a decent amount of sound systems that don't have digital optical audio inputs, but if you do - it's certainly worth going out and buying a cord for relatively cheap from somewhere like Walmart and truly experiencing 5.1 digital surround sound with your games because it's a vastly greater experience if you do so.

yeah I have the RGB cord and I just hooked it up to the comp ports on my TV then. I can see a difference in quality, but is it as good as the HDMI cable?

A: if your t.v has audio output you can run cable from t.v to the stereo .

b: you need microsoft audio output. i bought my hdmi and this as it comes together off ebay for like 8 bucks and works great. .. i knew i needed that output because i have turtle Beach's

c: i heard you can take a knife to your old a.v cords. you know the part where you plugt into the xbox. do to the casing you can't plug this and the hdmi in at once because the a.v is to fat. so i heard poeple pop the casing off them...

i was considering trying this because i have 3 av cables.. lol my av cables broke and i got microsiift send me 3 cables i had to trick them to do so. but i needed the hdmi so i just bought it all in one bid off ebay

Im assuming your surround sound system does not have on optical input? I know it could be a silly question but never mentioned it in the origonal post.

What k2theswiss said. You can buy a $50 audio adapter for the 360 from somewhere like Bestbuy that comes packaged with a 6' hdmi cable. I couldn't find the adapter sold by itself anywhere. It's made so you can use an hdmi cable and as well connect to other audio devices, such as surround sound. I use it and it works as intended.

Yeah there isn't any optical input on my surround sound system - pretty inconvinient. But does anybody know if HDMI is much greater than RGB?

Plug in the Xbox with HDMI into the TV and run an optical audio cable from the TV output to the surround sound system's input. Problem solved. You may want to put the volume at 0 from the TV depending on how it is set up. Some TV's let you control the surround system from the TV's volume setting.
