Got good reviews and it's $20 used on Amazon, but I haven't played the others. Thoughts? Will I be lost story-wise? To me, story is very important.scooter2407
I think you'd probably be confused about the story. I wouldn't say you'd have to start from the beginning of the entire series to understand it but I'd recommend at least playing Assassin's Creed 2 before you jumped into 3.

AC3 is just 20 seconds of gameplay, cutscene, gameplay cutscene, repeat... Just play AC2... AC3 is a bore and a letdown by my standards....
I strongly advise to stay away from that franchise entirely. It was good in the beginning but Ubi just had to go and **** it up with annual releases following Brotherhood. It's heavily story driven throughout the entire series so unless you want to set yourself up for disappointment I would find something better to play. FarCry 3, or Skyrim... Don't waste your money friend.
I didn't like ACIII at all. Â I thought it was really boring. Â I would not recommend it as your starting point for the series.
If you want to get into AC, I think ACII is the best. Â Although it isn't the beginning of the story it is the pinnacle of gameplay and story for the franchise, IMO.
AC1 was fun, but got very repetitive, IMO, so, while it wouldn't be a bad place to start it may sour you on the series because ACII is such a vast improvement over it. Â If you end up liking ACII then maybe give AC1 a go (and the sequels, of course).
Again, if you wish to start playing the series, I would start with ACII. Â It's also cheap and is still the best in the series, IMO.
The best games in the series are AC2 and AC Brotherhood. Don't listen to the douche bags putting down AC3 as an awful, unplayable game. There are varied opinions among fans but the game is still very much playable and good once you get into it. I enjoyed all the games in the series thus far.Â
Honestly I would jjust start from the beginning but realise the first is the most repetitive.Â

You will be confused story wise about Desmond's story. His story consists of about maybe... 5% of the game? Nevertheless, I never found his presence in the game to be really interesting.
The main star of AC3 is Connor, the assassin on the front cover. You can easily follow his story as knowledge of the past AC games are not needed. The setting and gameplay are probably the most improved out of all three games while its story and missions aren't as good as previous entries in the series, but I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point. Assassin's Creed 2 is a better game to start with.
AC2 is going to be free to download for all XBOX Gold Members around July 16, so you can wait for that to be free if you are a gold member. I consider it to be the best of the series with great story and gameplay.
Â
Overall both AC3 amd AC2 are both good games in my opinion, but I would start with AC2 if I were you.
Yes but Desmond is an integral part of the Assassins Creed fiction which I'm certain will eventually lead up to his time, and without having either read about, watched, or layed any of the previous games than it would be far too confusing for new players. It'd be like getting a book you've never read, opening up to a random page and then continue to read the book from that point onward without going back to see what leads up to the moment you began reading. To start with Assassins Creed III from a casual gamers perspective would make no sense. And then if he decides to go back and start from the beginning after having played III he might get discouraged because of how inferior the controls are, and how restricted the previous characters were.
Yeah the first two were AMAZING but I stopped following it after that because Ubi just ruined it.I strongly advise to stay away from that franchise entirely.
