well i was playing sonic for around 2 hrs and i noticed that while running around the town the frame stutters for a brief second. it happens every so often. im not sure if this is due to overheating or not. its places ontop of a blanket im not sure if that makes a difference or not. but i was wondering if a cooler fan is a good idea or not. is there anyway it could damage the 360?

Get it off the blanket! Put it on a surface that it can breathe on. And definitely not the carpet because of static charge. The coolers don't do anything. I still got the RROD due to overheating. Save your money and purchase a stand to put your system on.

A cooling fan will do more harm than good, it is recommended that you put your xbox360 in a area that is well ventilated (were it can get air from all directions)...

Nay. I have experienced 3RLs twice using a third party cooling fan.

The NykoIntercooler has also been reported to have caused a general hardware failure in a number of consoles, as well as scorching of the power AC input. -wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RROD

Nay, just make sure your 360 is on a flat surface and has enough air around it.

Keep it off the floor. I highly recommend putting it on a flat elevated surface with plenty of ventilation. Make sure you keep your console horizontal too. I've had my 360 scratch discs to the point of unrepairability because I left it up vertically.
