it helps prevent the 360 from over heating that would otherwise cause damage to your console which contributes getting RRoD. Although i now my 360 has the improved design, its just a safeguard to ensure a get the most life from it.

just keep it fresh and in an open are make sure no ventilation hole is blocke, and play for like 3 hours and let it cool down for like 20 minutes that way you wont have any trouble

I would stay away from the intercoolers. Just keep it well ventilated like posted above and you should be fine.

see what i mean? why do you say stay away from them? what are the reasons?

I already am keeping it well vented on every single side, power box too. I understand the mechanics behind it. such as the ram chips being heated, new model design which doubles the top ram chips and removes the four from underneath the motherboard where they were getting fried so there is more airflow within the console this and that. I am lucky to have the newer model 60GB coz it uses f all power. runs off 12. 1A and the power box is 150W, which is super low.

there is no point for those as it causes the 360 to actually get the red rings. those fans use the power from the brick and goes to the fan instead of the 360. the 360 ends up breaking from not enough power.

what if your 360 only required 150W's? or the fan had an external power plug of its own?

If it has a separate plug I don't see any chance of it doing harm.

I'd stay away from intercoolers all-around. Heard (like already posted) it may give you a better chance at getting RROD. The reason is, think of a fan in your living room and your have the fire brewing under the chimney in the living room as well. Your not cooling the room out, instead your circulating that hot air everywhere instead of one spot.

If you get a inner cooler make sure it doesn't run off the xbox 360 power. It should have it's own power source.

try the nyko intercooler ts. the reviews are quite good, and it runs on it's own power source.

Don't buy those fans. They cause turbulence which only does more harm than good. If you want to buy fans. Buy high cfm 80mm case fans and replace the ones in the back of your 360. If you can manage to find some intake face that would be place at the bottom of the 360, that would help, too. But do NOT buy any fans that are mounted behind the exhaust fans in the 360. imo, your best bet is to buy a water cooling kit.

What are you talking about? It certainly seems you have no clue!! First the RROD (Red Ring of Death) is caused by Microsoft's faulty design. There are two several design flaws with all the xbox's. The first being the X clamps are of inferior quality stamped steel which looses its tensile strength over time due to heating and cooling cycles instead of spring steel which does not suffer from this effect as it would take temperatures that would melt your XBox before it would suffer any ill effects. Secondly the heat sinks used do not have enough thermally conductive mass to adequately cool the chips with out direct forced air circulation. Third is that fact that the case has poor air flow design. And NO the inter coolers do not use power from the xBox 360 power brick... They come with their own power supply, DUH!! While the idea of the inter coolers thermostatic fan that continues to run after the XBox is turned off is a great idea and could result in extended longevity of your console, that is not the case. They in fact have a major design flaw of there own in that they induce an air flow restriction which results in a decrease in cooling capacity. The stock fans flow 27 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) with the 12v mod but are fairly noisy, The inter cooler is not capable of this due to it's small fan size, this impedes the airflow of the stock fans even while it is running. The Talismoon WHISPER MAX fans flow 47 CFM. More CFM=More COOLING The best thing you could do to improve your xBox is to invest in the Talismoon fan kit and install the 5v/12v fan switch. Get a roll of Aluminum Tape for use with heating and cooling duct work, it maintains adhesion at temperatures up to 80 deg C and seal the mating edges of the cooling shroud/heat sink mating surface. If you are really ambitious and have the time you can fabricate a hood from this tape and some hanger wire for the heat sink under the DVD Drive to improve air flow across this heat sink. If this heat sink has the upgraded heat pipe cooler on it from Microsoft, you can mount a 12v 40mm fan from a Pentium CPU cooler on it with tie straps and run your wires to your 12v source. Yezok

I agree replace the factory fans with High CFM units, 40 to 50 CFM. Water cooling would offer the best cooling scenario. I modded my xBox and replaced the factory Heat sinks with Custom Modded pure copper coolers. Was pretty easy to do. I now run an ambient case temperature of 22 deg C and my CPU GPU run 43 deg C No more heating RROD's and game freezing, I have played frontines fuel of war for 14hrs straight and left my xbox on for a week and it it still feels cool to the touch and the air out the back is just barley warm

yea if u do that than you don't need any fan and also most of the fans (like the nyko) take the power from the 360 itself which can cause it to overheat soo if u want a fan get one that takes the power outside

Lol ur also confused because as i said before a lot of the coolers use the power from the 360 causing it to heat up and yes the X clamp melts because of the console overheating

Don't change anything with your fans or add anything either. They may cancel your warranty and are never good for your machine.

wow seriously people need to stop posting when they don't know anything about computer hardware. no, circulating air does no add heat to the xbox from around the room. that's just retarded the intercooler ts seems like a very good cooling fan. the only problem i have with it is that it caused a lot of vibration througout my xbox and it was loud. i'm going to return it. it definitely kept my xbox cool to the touch tho. after 4 hours of gaming, the xbox was completely cool to touch. and no, the older intercoolers had the problem of shorting out the power. the new intercooler ts uses its own power cord

Sell your current xbox and get a Jasper. The money you'll lose will be probably around the same a cooling system will cost you, minus the stupid effort.

93soccer made a very, very strong point. Well put. As I said before that if you have that cooling fan attached to your 360 system, then trash it because thats how I prevented the red ring of death (RROD). I do NOT use any cooling fan but what it already has and why do I need anything else?

this is the exact set up im thinking About using but i wanted to know in the long run would this ruin my xbox dvd drive? cause the core coolers run off the dvd drives power, and i've also heard rumors that running these core cooler fans off the dvd drive ruins it because of lack of power

i want to do the same thing... i emailed someone from GameTrain.com and got a reply saying it uses 5V and has not been known to pose an issue with drawing power / power problems. but hey, its an online store so probably just making us buy it lol. any experience or more info would be great
