copying games to hard drive?

When you copy a game to your hard drive does it affect the disk at all?

Does it copy the game from the disk does it copy or does it take the game off the disk and put it on your hard drive?

Once you install the game to the HDD the disk is still needed to start the game play. For me it seems that games run a bit smoother and load quicker.

It only copies the game to the HDD.
