Could constantly installing/deleting/reinstalling games to the HDD be harmful?

I enjoy the improved performance, slower load times and having a quieter, probably safer console that comes with installing games so much that I'm at a point where I refuse to play any game off the disc.

Problem is, I still have an old 20 GB hard-drive, and between everything else I've downloaded, I only really have space for one installed game at a time. This leads me to constantly delete and install every time I want to play a different game, and until I'm able to afford a 120 GB HDD or hopefully get one for Xmas, I'm wondering if there could possibly be any long-term or short-term ramifications for doing this.

Anyone know?

Mike, No problems that I have heard :) I don't see how this could be harmful as people download Videos and Demos and then delete them. The only thing thats diffrent is that its a bigger file size. So again I would think that this would not be an issue, to cause the console or harddrive to break

You'd have to look into Microsoft, and see if the Xbox360 takes care of its own defragging. If it does, then there isn't anything to worry about. If there is NO defragging of any kind...that may put a limit on your machine. I have the same setup you do, and am doing the same thing. Luckily there isn't much defragging necessary when you're installing 6-7 gig chunks in iso (block) format. Keep at it man, dont worry about it, and if all fails, grab a mem card and a new HDD and you're good to go with no harm done :)

Well, I went and googled it and the general consensus on all the tech forums seems to be that, because of the size of the game installs and the fact that they're most likely iso's, its unlikely that any major fragmentation is likely to occur.

So it looks like I can rest easy, at least for now. I sill want a 120 GB, though, just to aleviate having to wait ten minutes for every install.

It takes 10 minutes to copy a game over. If you play a game for 2 hours, the drive would then be spinning for 2 hours instead of 10 minutes. I would say copying and deleting a game everyday is less wear and tear than playing it off the disc itself.

If you're only playing a game for 5 minutes before deleting and moving onto a new game, than that is bad.
