I beat Crackdown 2 yesterday. Wow. What a disappointing game. Within the first few minutes you learn that you need to activate 3 absorption units that absorb sunlight energy, after which you activate a beacon that destroys freaks in the area. Sounds good right? WRONG. After activating the beacon, you find out that you need to repeat the same process. 8 more times. 6 hours and 8 beacons later, there's finally a change-of-pace mission I won't talk about so that the spoilers remain minor. Then, the final mission, which takes about as long as a beacon mission, and the game is over and in sandbox mode.

Crackdown 2 is just a DLC game. The story is the same half-hour mission duplicated 9 times with slightly harder enemies each time, with maybe an hour of extra content at the end. The plot is just stupid, not mentioning anything about Crackdown 1, even though it continues 10 years after where Crackdown 1 left off.

Sandbox mode is alright. Fun to play, fun to skill up, fun to kill Freaks, but it doesn't make the game worth it. What looked like a good game on the surface turned out to be a glorified sandbox that reused EXACTLY the same islands as Crackdown 1 with a thin plot and greedy developers looking to profit from DLC that should have already been included in the game.

Thoughts?

You pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly...I was very disappointed because I enjoyed Crackdown 1 despite it's many flaws and was expecting the second to have improved on many of these...Boy was I wrong:?...There are really no improvements at all...The addition of the Freaks is a joke...This game is a pretty pathetic con by the lazy bunch of developers actually...Ranks highly on my worst games list sadly.

I've kind of been hearing the same thing. Is it worth a rental for $7?

i rented it, couldn't bother to keep it for a whole week. $7 is better than purchasing the game...so ya, i guess. eventhough i still sort of felt ripped off.

yeah it was a huge letdown and nothing but a cash grab imo. They only spent 8 months developing it which explains alot actually. Crackdown 2 is more like an expansion pack then an actual sequel and i actually had more fun with the orginal. This game is def not worth 60 buks.

You can easily beat the game in about 6 hours. The only good thing about it is sandbox mode at the end. Really fun after you get Agility to 5 to grab a Helicopter and kill zombies. The only reason I even play the game any more is for achievements. I've completed the story, taken every tactical location, and now all I have left is to close the 6 remaining Freak Breaches I have left for that achievement and I'll probably never pick up the game again. I might give it to my cousin because he LOOOVED Crackdown 1. He doesn't care about plot, he just likes blowing things up (he's 10) but other than that I think the only other games I'll be playing till Reach are MW2 multiplayer and Red Dead Redemption.

Crackdown 2 = Rent, Don't Buy
