I bought Dark Sector for 9 bucks at a blockbuster near me and I was actually really impressed with it. It's gotten mostly negative reviews and lots of people are calling it a blatant rip off of Gears, which I disagree with. Yes the control scheme and camera viewpoint are similar but that's really where the similarities end. I've had a lot of fun playing it on campaign as well as online, it's graphics are extremely impressive, and its got some really cool abilities for your character as well as a solid survival horror influence. You play as a special forces agent who gets infected with a disease that turn humans into monstrous zombie like mutants with metallic skin. As you progress through the story the infection progresses and as a result you are given different abilities. It's a third person shooter but like Gears the shooting is done from a first person perspective. Once you are infected a glaive (basically a three pronged boomerang with blades) forms out of your hand. A decent amount of the gameplay is centered on the use of the glaive to solve puzzles, pick up items, and attack enemies. It does base itself on many games to come before it, but it manages to balance those clear influences with its own original elements and it is definitely an impressive and fun game. Actually a lot of the meh! reviews came from the fact that the devs switched from the early promising theme in favour of a less ambitious setting.
They initially advertized the game as a space-age stealth game, and it looked like the game would have very unique elements, but then they went for the cliched U.S. agent vs russian organization premise, that turned a lot people off.
It was never going to have the kind of industry buzz it needed to become popular without those unique initial elements.
How can it be a rip-off of Gears when the developers of Dark Sector co-developed the Unreal Engine that Gears uses with Epic? Not many people know this I think. I think that's why there's so much similarities between Dark Sector's gameplay and Gears of War. Anyway, the game is still fun as a good solid, Gears of War alternative. I never played multiplayer, but for what it is, it's a pretty fun single player action game.ASK_StoryThe problem is it's not even as good as Gears and it came out after. If they are masters of the engine, they sure did a poor job of showing it. I got it off Amazon for 17$, got really bored and stopped playing. I felt like I had to force myself through it. Dead Space/Gears/RE5 are the gems, Dark Sector while not horrible, just isn't that great. Felt like it was missing something.
The game sucked in EVERY way. Repetitive game play, bland graphics, boring and un-original story, stupid Bossesand bland enemies, it just sucked. Now if you do think it was good, go on Youtube and check out what Dark Sector was supposed to be like 4-5 years ago when they released a trailer. It was stealth and action, then they ruined it to appeal to the shooter audience to make more money I guess. But yeah, it sucked, hard.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqVazsPEQEc&feature=relatedThat was originaly a PS3 exclusive too, lol.
The concept in that original trailer wasn't nearly as interesting. There was no infection, no Glaive, stupid looking power suit. Although having the dark sector in space might have been more fun. I think the final product was better than what was originally proposed.
i waited yrs for this game, not worth my money at all. too many games already did what this game tried to do bout time it ACTUALLY came out. it just wasnt very good.
I bought it really cheap as well and it was fun for the price I paid. I think the original premise would have made for a much better game but I enjoyed playing it nonetheless. Haven't tried the multiplayer though.
i thoroughly enjoyed dark sector as well, yet i can't help but give it a mediocre score since i acknowledge the game's flaws, mainly it's repetitivenss. your semi review though is more of a summary on what the game is, not your honest opinion of what you thought of the game.

i picked it up for 7.99 at gamestop lol, and i was amazed lol,
but it really lacks split screen and no one plays it online ,
My thoughts on the game...Some aspects of it I was very impressed by, some were lacking but overall it's worth playing. Especially since its very cheap. I never heard of the game's previous development history so the changes obviously didn't bother me. The guns taken from enemies exploding after like 30 seconds was a bit annoying but as you progress and buy your own guns that becomes less of a problem. I thought the use of the glaive and the many abilities that come with it made for interesting gameplay. The graphics were extremely impressive and the environments were also constructed well. The idea of the protagonist gradually turning into one of the infected was also a very cool idea. Yes the gameplay can be repetitive at times but there are few games that aren't guilty of that and it wasn't enough to really put me off. After I played the Gears games Dark Sector made a great supplement as well. Despite the elements taken from previous games I thought they managed to produce a refreshing and original game, even the borrowed elements were made their own. I'd give it like an 8.5, not the best game I've ever played but still plenty of fun to be had for fans of survival horror/shooters.i thoroughly enjoyed dark sector as well, yet i can't help but give it a mediocre score since i acknowledge the game's flaws, mainly it's repetitivenss. your semi review though is more of a summary on what the game is, not your honest opinion of what you thought of the game.

I thought Dark Sector was a great game. I got it about a year or so ago for €25.49 & I'd probably give it a score of 8/10. It has a solid singleplayer with alright multiplayer. I've seen it recently on PLAY.COM for €6.49 new, if anyone in Europe or the UK is interested. :D (I'm not sure if it's still at that price, though :P)

Exactly. I remember the old screen shots and thought it was going to be really cool. Then when it did come out, I was just as pissed as the reviewers. Please Log In to post.
