DARK SOULS upgrading weapon question

Hello all I have the gargoyle tail axe +5 and just picked up a green tianite, should i use it to "enchant" the weapon. Or should i just use chunks to keep increasing the damage. Any thoughts or opinions would be much appreciated, i'm not sure i fully understand the pros and cons of making a weapon magic. Thanks fellas

Enchanted weapons scale their damage with your intelligence- if youre not a sorcerer, it is worthless. Lightning/fire/raw are safer bets for meleer's. Divine weapons gets better with your faith stat. If you dont raise faith normally, theyre not worth it either.

Ascend it to +6 withthe large ember (found in The Depths). Then reinforce it to +10.

i gave the large ember to the blacksmith near the undead parish...how do i level (ascend?) it more, adding one of those effects. I have been trying to read up on upgrading weapons online but its all very confusing. Not sure exactly how this works now. Thanks
