Its the closest you'll get to a horror game in this day and age, but it does have a number of high tension moments and jump moments.

It has intense moments in it for sure... great part is it doesn't develop slowly, they throw it at you off the start of the game, great pick up.

I personally didn't find it very scary. I don't play survival-horror games or watch horror movies either.

good game with creepy imagery, scary, no. The fact that it's not real should keep it from being scary to anyone.

It's more jumpy than scary. it's very atmospheric. You won't be disappointed regardless if you're scared or not though. Phenomenal game.

Yes, it is to a certain extent what you may call, "Scary". It is a pretty high tension game, some moments being pretty memorable. The story is excellent, the controls are AMAZING (seriously, Capcom should take note of the movement issue or at least tight controls so they can tweak the next RE) Not to mention the enemies are very interesting, the weapons are amazing! and the environment the developers created is amazing. Seriously, some of the audio diaries in the game are just, disturbing. (Chapter 7 anyone?) Overall, i thought it was my game of the year 2008, i loved it way too much. 9/10 in my books. Basicly, if you enjoy games such as Gears of war and Resident evil 5, but much more tense and scary, darker and grittier, you are almast certain to love Dead Space. Good Luck :)

I found the game to incredibly scary and even more atomospheric. The game is simply phenomenal its a must buy.

Your friends that didnt find it scary are the likely just playing front and trying to show off for you... those are the ones that find these games the most scary out of anybody else haha.

There's quite a few jump-scares, and some creepy atmospheres. Either way, it's a great game and you should play it. Also, I hear FEAR and FEAR2 are scary.

Yep, it's pretty scary. I also suggest you put the difficulty on Hard since it'll add to the fear and intensity. It'll make the game harder, scarier since the monsters don't die as easily, and it'll feel more like a survival game since you'll constantly be managing your ammo and health.

DeadSpace is an amazing game with a dense, dark atmoshpere and some pretty fresh gameplay. It really is a masterpiece in its own right. There's nothing else quite like it. However..... Its not scary at all. I even tried playing it in the pitch black dark with my closet wide open...... nothing. But that's just me. My little cousin peed herself. :D

It had it moments, but after awhile you kind of know how to anticipate and you know where the attacks will happen.

it does have a very creepy atmosphere, and some necromorphs may make you jump from time to time, but its not that scary. on the other hand, it is very gory!

It's more messed up than scary. But I think it's the kind of game you rent and not buy. It was definetely worth the $10 but I would have been dissapointed if I spent $50 on a 12 hour game. Also beating it with just the plasma cutter is the way to go.

After very short time it does not become scary. The bosses were easy and I would say it is not were near as much fun or challenging as RE5.

As many other horror games, it depends on how much of yourself you let into the game. Try turning off all lights and focus only on the screen. Imagine it's you. Hell, it *is* you. Forget about sitting in the safety of your own home. Be Isaac. These things cankill you. I'm betting all my money that Isaac is f'ing scared.

Its not really that scary it makes you jump more than anything. It is pretty creepy when you hear the monsters behind you and you have to turn around...He turns so slowly its painful.

Dead Space is a scary game, but more of a tension scary then a physcoloigcal fear. You know necromorphs are going to be coming at you so you are usually tense but you know what will come at you. It is a very atmospheric game, the mot that i have ever played and i was tense alot and on the edge of my seat alot. It is a fun game to play and it is a scary tension filled game. And if you are into those things you will love it.

it has its moments thats true, but after a while you get accustomed, to the history and controls and the monsters so it gets pretty easy and became one shooter more,so i say its not survival horror, i recomend you FATAL FRAME OF playstation2, that one make u **** in your pants, damn japanase people sure think of scary ones.

Hi all, I polish gamer and I want learning english language, so I register in gamespot forum. I like video games. I play in Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PC. In my country as platform for games dominate computer PC. I now - this is strange, but repeatedly many people in Polish buy console. I play at the Dead Space on Xbox 360. My opinion - this is only good game and a little scary. Many boring monsters... Not 'subtle fear', as example... Call of Cthulhu PC game or - maybe - Silent Hill.

Dead Space is to Jordan as Resident Evil 5 is to LeBron James when it comes to scariness and intense moments. DS would keep you on your toes through out the game, where as RS is more action/tactical with little to no scare. I have a surround sound set up at my house and never did I once fear those athletic zombies lol. Dead Space is the way to go my friend.

The atmosphere it creates can freak you out, and there are some jump moments, but on the whole it is not scary. It is definitly worth picking up though.

What he said. It has a couple of scary moments, but more often than not it's just going to keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering where the next enemy is going to come from. You need to play it on at least normal without any lights on to get the most out of it though. And make sure you search for the audiodiaries. Some of those are just plain disturbing.
