I tune into the show sometimes, but I can't really see this game worth $60. FPS_Gamer123
I just wish there was more information available about it. You know, like what the gameplay is like and stuff. Most of the videos just show the boats on the sea and that's about it. I mean, can you walk around the ship as a crew member or can you only steer the boat and give out orders?
There isn't even any game play vids here on GS - any on gametrailers.com?barilli71
I saw what looked like a video of the tutorial on Youtube. It was only a couple of minutes or so long.
Has anyone played it yet? I hear it's more like a boat sim then an action game. I like sim games like that, so it sounds cool to me. I just don't know if I want to pay $60 for it though. :?EnderSR388
i dont have to play this game to catch crabs.
it doesn't look like you can control any particular person on deck. You just give them orders.DZBricktop
That's kinda what I figured. Like I said, I like sim style games, much like Sea Dogs on the PC or Pirates of the Caribbean (aka Sea Dogs II) on the XBOX. I might wait and see what people's reactions are to it. If favorable, I might check it out. I have a bunch of trade-in credit left anyways, so I wouldn't be paying cash for it.

I have this game and it's actually pretty decent. I mean, if you don't like sim games, I understand why it would be miserably boring to you, but if you like sims, this could be a great game for you, especially if you like the show.Mattman012691
I love the show and also sim games, so I might pick this up. Thanks.
Yeah, I can't see how this is anything but a cynical TV cashcow milking exercise.
Coming soon: Deadliest Catch - Christmas Edition. It's exactly the same game, except that everyone wears a cute red hat and the soundtrack is remixed to include church bells. And it costs another sixty bucks.

LMAO :D
I can't think of what they could do to make this TV show into a fun game. The absense of a demo or game footage only makes me even more suspicious of it, and that it is attempting to cash in on the name of the TV show quickly before word spreads of how bad it is.
The less info is available about a game before release, the greater the chance the game is gonna be crap. Too many games are over-hyped, but I think a lack of info is more damning.
I'm telling you, the people who've played this game are liking it. It can't be all that bad. I mean first off all take away the name and it's a boat sim, plain and simple. I also hear that the mechanics that make up the game are entertaining. The Deadlieast Catch name on the box is just a tie in to help consumers identify with the product, instead of seeing "Xtreme Crab Fishing" or some other generic name.
I'm going to give it a shot. If I don't like it, big deal, I have BF:BC, Alone in the Dark paid-off for next week and I still have MGS4, GTAIV and GRID to keep me busy. I'm really buying this game to get a change of pace, something unique and different from all the FPSs and 3PSs.

LOL! That's funny.
Judging from this exciting gameplay footage, it doesn't look like you can control any particular person on deck. You just give them orders.DZBricktop
haha, that's great. Looks like this game won't be coming in my house for a LONG time to come lol
it looks sorta dumbxxIMoRTaLlxx
Well I picked it up last night and I have to say that I'm liking it. It really teaches you things about crab fishing and it's definitely NOT an arcade experience. It's pretty deep and challenging. Especially when trying to find the best place to fish. I'd give it a 7.5/10.
i know i contacted my local eb and they dont know if its shipped yet. lol mabe next month il get it.

Yeah, when I went to Gamestop yesterday they only had one copy left. The clerk said that there was a lot of people calling about it. He said they had sold most of the copies they had and since I was buying the last one, they had sold all 5. That's not bad for a game that most people wrote off. If you like sim games, this is a good one. If you like the show, this is a wonderful extentsion of it. After going through a storm, I'm changing my score to 8/10.
It's addicting and fun plotting course for where you can find crab. Checking the charts and surveys. Monitoring where the other boats fish and what they haul. I like laying a string, let 'em soak for 24 to 48 hours, then pulling up a string that has 63 keepers per pot! I pulled down a ton of cash when I unloaded at Dutch Harbor. My lowest greenhorn still got $29K! That's not bad.
My wife loves that show, i didn't even know this game was out. I'm going to find it for her to rent... she'd probably have a blast.Phazevariance
It's really for fans of the show. So if you can find it to rent, get it.
I will tell you this, it's s-l-o-w. It's starts off slow and you'll be doing a lot of tedious work when stringing out the pots. Then you have to wait at least 24 hrs before you head back to pick them up. Once you wait the desired amount of time, you head back to your bouys, one of the deckhands throws out the hook and ties it up to the winch. They winch it up, hook it to the crane and haul it on deck. They empty the pot and tell you how many keepers you get for the pot. If it's a large amount, you have the option of re-setting the pot or stacking it on the deck. You're best bet is to lay a string, wait, then pull one up on a short soak (9-12 hrs) and see how many you get. If you bring up a decent amount, re-bait the pot and set back. Wait the rest of the time and start hauling up the crab. Sometimes you'll get a lot, sometimes you get very little.
It's an entertaining game if this is the stuff that entertains you (i.e., crab fishing, skippering a crab boat, hiring and firing crew, etc). It's not bad by any means, but it is an extremely niche game and most people won't like it.
